Let\u2019s hear it for the girls, starting with our first mother \u2013 Eve. Bless her heart! She had no girl friends to be her role models for wisdom and guidance. She wasn\u2019t afforded the opportunity to say \u201cyes\u201d to God via the angel, Gabriel. I think she has gotten a bad rap. Sure, she made a whopping mistake, but if it weren\u2019t for her mistake, we wouldn\u2019t be here. Even back then, God had a plan and promised \u201cAll things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purposes\u201d Romans 8:28. Her failures, and her husband\u2019s, afforded the human race a place on this earth.
Let\u2019s hear it for the girls. Fast forward to Mary, Mother of Jesus \u2013 the new and improved Eve. This time, Gabriel showed up and gave her the opportunity to say \u201cyes\u201d to bearing the Son of God in the flesh. Her \u201cyes\u201d gave us a spiritual new life through her Son. And, her response to Gabriel that she would become the mother of God\u2019s Son are what is driving Judge Amy Coney Barrett\u2019s cynics crazy: \u201cBehold the HANDMAID of the Lord; be it unto me according to Your word\u201d (Luke 1:38). Like those words somehow make her weak and a mistreated vessel. Not! Mary was and still is our perfect role model — one of obedience, gentleness, patience, commitment, self-sacrificing love and devotion, lover of God, holiness, strength, servitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now, let\u2019s hear it for the girls of these times. We\u2019ve come a long way, Sisters! I won\u2019t relegate to who we are not (i.e., the left\u2019s women status symbols), but who we are as devoted followers of Christ and His Word. And I bring you to President Trump\u2019s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Amy Coney Barrett. I sincerely believe that this is a Queen Esther moment: \u201cGod has called you to this kingdom \u2013 for such a time as this.\u201d Judge Barrett\u2019s professional life is impeccable and unparalleled in intellect and achievement with credentials that are sterling. She is proof that women can be ambitious maternally as they are professionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I watched Judge Barrett, last Saturday, as she was introduced to the world. It occurred to me that, in a world of venom, she is quietly confident. Amidst the shouts to bring her down, she speaks of duty. Surrounded by words of slander, she allows her life to be her defense. She lives her opinions. If Christians will pay attention to her, we will have an example for our own lives as we brave this final month of October before the election. I\u2019m praying that I will stand with the same quiet confidence of this woman who knows and trusts Christ. I pray that she will continue to set that example for our country. She will need great strength to live her faith out this October. What she says and how she says it will be taped, run as news, and will remain her witness for years to come. How like God to quietly orchestrate an October 2020 example for our country. Quiet confidence is a powerful witness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our future doesn\u2019t depend on a presidential election\u2014although I believe we all have a responsibility to vote. God is still in control.
