In front of the bike is a large window that I see the reflection of the large TV screen behind me. The weather is on. My eyes deceive me. I see the temperatures as 59, 69, 79, 89, and 69 for the rest of the week. I think “Yippee, a cold front is coming!” I stop pedaling and turn around and I see the actual numbers: 95, 96, 97, 98 and 96. I was seeing what I hoped for and not the reality. But the good news is those actual numbers are better than the 100+ temperatures we’ve been having.

A few days ago I read an article about how the Farmers Almanac’s predictions for 2021’s February were accurate (within two days). It told about the winter storms that left millions of Texans without power as well as high as 700 dying because of it, plus millions of dollars to repair the damages from the storm. My move here was delayed a week because of it. And, even in Frisco, there was tremendous damage. BUT we, AND our power grid, should have been more prepared.

Our Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed two bills in June seeking to remedy the failures of the state’s power supply system by developing requirements to shore up infrastructure across the state’s electricity supply change. But thank goodness the Farmers Almanac predicts that this year’s winter will be milder.

Lest you think I’m desiring to be a prognosticator or a prophet or at the least one who is dependent on what the Farmers Almanac or weather person has to say – to the contraire! What I see with my physical eyes (like the images in the window that were wrong) or what I read or hear online, in books or TV, doesn’t hold a candle to what I know about what God says about our future. Here I go again with two old songs: “Many things about tomorrow, I don’t seem to understand, but I know Who holds tomorrow and I know Who holds my hand.” And, “The sun will come out tomorrow. Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, there’ll be sun!”

Yes, there will sun AND the Son, who promises us tomorrow. Jesus schooled His followers about concern, fear and worry, “Oh you of little faith,” and “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” and “Don’t worry about tomorrow for tomorrow takes care of itself.”

In the words of the great philosopher, Erma Bombeck: “Worry is like a rocking chair: It gives you something to do, but it doesn’t get you anywhere.” From firsthand experience, I can tell you that statement is true. I’ve done my share of being worrying about tomorrow. But that worry and concern NEVER got me anywhere! I realized that it was a time waster, energy sucker, stomach nauseater, and a depression maker — not to mention, that I disappointed God when I was a “Worry Wart”. The Merriam Webster says a worry wart is someone who worries too much or who worries about things that are not important. But more than anything, it’s admitting that I wasn’t trusting God to take care of the situations in my life.

Here comes another song: “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone. Because I know, He holds my future. And life is worth the living, just because He lives.” So, whether the weather is hot or cold and whether WE are hot or cold in our ability to trust our tomorrows to our “nothing is impossible” God, we can let go and let God navigate the course for us. We can face tomorrow because He lives and He always ensures the sun will come out tomorrow even when the clouds loom in front of it!

It is 5:15 am and I am pedaling with a vengeance on the stationary bike in our fitness center.
