Rather it was the photo graphic I used. The words I added were: “See that graphic of a Wheat field with those affirming words about Who is in control and I’m not?” I purposedly put my name there as a reminder!”

My maiden name was “Wheat”. I grappled with that name growing up. Donna Wheat. Donna Buckwheat. Donna Oats & Wheat. Donna Corn Wheat. Donna Wheaties. Having the last name “Wheat” made for endless entertainment for my friends. At least no one ever asked, “How do you spell it?” But then came my forever boyfriend who had the last name “Wuerch” and to this day I hear “How do you pronounce that? How do you spell that?” Obviously I’m proud of “Wheat” today because I use it as the headliner on my Social Media pages “Donna Wheat Wuerch”.

I purged many things when I sold my home and moved to Austin. I like to think I paid them forward to others who can enjoy them now because of my estate sale or donations. I literally died to myself and the wants of the past that I wanted to keep. In my new place, I purposely chose some new items that I dubbed as “inspirations”. This blog’s inspiration was the canvas art piece inspired by a Canadian artist who painted the Canadian “WHEAT” field at harvest. The Canadian part is representative of my “love” who was Canadian and born there, and of course, my “Wheat” name. I also have a vase of wheat that I’ve combined with Fall decor’.

The name, “Wheat”, contains legacy and promise and hope. Not only was I blessed to be born into the Wheat Family which carries a legacy of honorable, faith-filled, and devoted followers of Christ, but the name continues to impact this world. My brother, Rocky Wheat, passed on years ago, but his seeds carried forward to my three nephews, who carry the Gospel message as pastors/ministers here in Texas. The “Wheat” crop is top quality, and it keeps pollinating and producing other faithful and devoted followers of Christ. My children included.

The scripture we chose for my husband’s Celebration of Life were Jesus’ words from John 12:24 “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of WHEAT falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” Those seeds are reproducing multiple crops. I believe that scripture is truer than ever as I witness how God is abundantly blessing through the seeds of my parents, my siblings and the seeds that my sweetheart and I planted in our children and others. Those generations before us laid the foundation for our faith. Though “Wheat” is my reference point today, we all are represented in those words. We have the opportunities to lay foundations of faith in our families and friends. Those who want to live meaningfully and well must help enrich the lives of others, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others find happiness.

We are blessed to be a blessing. When we share our lives, our hearts, our encouragement, our sensitivity, our honesty and integrity with others, their lives WILL be enriched, and their “seeds” will help heal the lives that they encounter. How about a slice of enriched whole wheat “Bread of Life” today?

“Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35)

Heavenly Father, may we be willing to die to the things of ourselves and come to the place where we are raised up as a fruitful seeds that honor God. Jesus was the first grain of wheat that died to live in us. Thank You that Christ swallowed up death in victory. May we bear much fruit and harvest for Your Kingdom. This we ask in Jesus’ name, AMEN.

My blog for today was inspired from the “wheat” reference in my blog from yesterday.
