{"id":1600,"date":"2015-08-08T12:36:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-08T17:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mypeacezone.com\/spreading-peace-love\/"},"modified":"2019-02-18T10:03:50","modified_gmt":"2019-02-18T16:03:50","slug":"spreading-peace-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mypeacezone.com\/?p=1600","title":{"rendered":"Spreading the Peace &#038; Love"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-058oZFXeqJY\/VcX3VpaSdUI\/AAAAAAAALF8\/Ny8o8QnOyZY\/s1600\/Alexia%2BPainting.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/mypeacezone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/AlexiaPainting.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Day 213 of Photo Inspirations &#8212; Spreading the Peace &amp; Love<br \/>\nWhen my Alexia Wallace\u200b comes to visit, we are intentional with crafts and creativity. &nbsp;She is the right-brained artistic one in the family. &nbsp;I love watching her &#8212; so patient in putting together a masterpiece. &nbsp;This little puppy is a simple paint-by-number painting she did on Sunday, and she didn&#8217;t stop until it was finished.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-HRFTdFhmuuE\/VcX3gFowfwI\/AAAAAAAALGE\/9Vf7Xueb9pY\/s1600\/Alexia%2BCanaan%2BTie%2BDyeing%2BShirts2.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/mypeacezone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/AlexiaCanaanTieDyeingShirts2.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Then she and her friend, Canaan Cooper, took me back in time as they tie-dyed shirts. &nbsp;Tie-dye is just a modern term that was invented in the mid-1960s in the U.S. I found out that the process of tie-dye typically consists of folding, twisting, pleating, or crumpling fabric or a garment and binding it with string or rubber bands, followed by the application of dye(s). &nbsp; &nbsp;Ours was from a simple kit from Michael&#8217;s, and the shirts are some from my closet. &nbsp;Their creativity resulted in these &#8220;throw-back&#8221; t-shirts. <\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t realize it was such a simple process &#8212; I never pursued the art, but I well remembered the hippies that wore them in the 60s. &nbsp;Tie-dyeing was especially popular with those who opposed the Vietnam War. &nbsp;The young people of the 60s rebelled against the conservative rules of dress and appearance that had influenced their parents&#8217; generation, and many began to appreciate a movement that valued arts and crafts, simplicity, and traditional ways of making things. Tie-dye was a natural outgrowth of those values, combining personal creativity and bright designs to create low-cost clothing. Tie-dye had its roots in Indian and Japanese culture.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;I remember that culture of anti-war and pro-peace. &nbsp;I remember the Flower Children (those who distributed flowers or floral-themed decorations to symbolize ideals of peace). <\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-eBlxLAvvSwU\/VcX3rcPHOmI\/AAAAAAAALGM\/KoE72fOY8es\/s1600\/Alexia%2BCanaan%2BShirts%2Bon%2BFP.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"https:\/\/mypeacezone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/AlexiaCanaanShirtsonFP.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>There were a lot of anti-war demonstrations in those days. &nbsp;I remember Mother Teresa saying, \u201cI was once asked why I don&#8217;t participate in anti-war demonstrations.
