There’s something about having a sweet taste combined with yummy coffee. I go for the flavored-coffee pods. This day, however, the coffee is bland every time I take a sip.

I carry on with it being bland through my whole meal. Then I start thinking: “Wait a minute! Did I even put a pod in the Keurig because I don’t remember selecting a flavor?” And sure, enough there is no pod in the Keurig.

What does that say about us putting up with the “bland” in our lives? Remember the old song “Que sera sera” whatever will be, will be?” Just living each day with a ho-hum attitude. This is all there is. No use getting our expectations up because this is all there will ever be! Heavens NO! Let’s put flavor into our lives!

John 10:10 says “Jesus came to give us ABUNDANT LIFE!” Bland is not abundant. When I tasted the yummy coconut flavored coffee after I put the pod in, what a difference it made!

Anyone who believes the Christian life is boring has never taken God’s invitation to “Taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalm 34:8). Instead, they pursue things that only make them happy or content.

Even though God promised us abundant life, there are times when day-to-day routines become bland…..boring. If that’s the case for you, may I recommend getting out of your comfort zone by setting yourself on a course to be a do-gooder!

Where I live there are all kinds of activities to keep anyone from boredom, but busyness and staying active isn’t the answer to those who desire more in this life.

King Solomon, the wisest and richest person who ever lived, had everything a person could possibly want. He said, “I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure” (Ecclesiastes 2:10). Solomon had it all, but he concluded that it was “meaningless” and likened it to “chasing after the wind” (v. 11). In other words, he had everything this world had to offer, and he was bored.

I fully realize that the Christian life is not supposed to be a thrill-a-minute extravaganza. No life is that. Boredom is something we must all overcome. Everyone stands in line at the grocery store, gets caught in traffic, or is given jobs they’d rather not do.

Some people assume that being a Christian is boring because they’ve heard that Christians must give up all the “fun” things in life. It’s true that Christians give up some things, but it’s not the fun.

Christians give up their mistakes and sin, their self-destructive behavior, their addictions, their negative attitudes, and their lack of trusting God. But best news ever, we receive “righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17). “We live as children of light” in a dark world (Ephesians 5:8).

The mistakes of our past no longer have a stronghold in our lives. We no longer live for ourselves but for the One who died for us. We serve others and make a difference. We are becoming everything that God created us to be. It is virtually impossible for life to be bland or boring in such a life.

A growing, committed Christian will find that life is never boring. There’s always another step of faith to take, another relationship to build, another person to serve, another win each time we conquer again.

Is the Christian life bland? The answer is “HEAVENS NO!” I’m living in the words of Jesus about the abundant, full life! I choose life when I wake up! When I get up! When I go about my day! When I see a friend who needs that life! So….I’m saying to you today! “GET A LIFE!” – the abundant, full life in Christ!

I enjoy taking a bite of my yogurt, blueberries, and granola with a quick follow-up of coffee.
