I remember the time when I was at church and that \u201cgotta\u2019 sneeze\u201d hit. I tried to hold it back, but couldn\u2019t — \u201cah-choo!\u201d The man behind me whispered \u201cBless you!\u201d Ten seconds later, \u201cah-choo\u201d came again. This time it was the woman beside me who said, \u201cGod bless you\u201d! As embarrassing as it was, it didn\u2019t matter. I was being given blessings from God Almighty\u2019s children!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let\u2019s think about the blessings of God that began from the beginning of time \u2013 even before there was such a thing as time. \u201cIn the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.\u201d In the beginning? Our wildest imaginations simply don\u2019t engage there — nothingness became something?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And right then and there we were introduced to God. Nothingness from a Someone Who was there all along became something. And God began to speak. He says, \u201cLet there be.\u201d He creates. He makes things using only His voice. He creates everything with His voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then on His fifth day of creation, He spoke and created fish and birds, and blessed them. That was the first time we see \u201cbless\u201d in the Bible. He said to the birds and the fish, \u201cBless you. Have at it, kids. Enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My family loves fishing \u2013 any lake, river, or ocean. My family also loves bird-watching. My East Texas kiddos have a huge telescope at their large window that views their lake. They\u2019ll call out \u201cIt\u2019s a bald eagle! It\u2019s a crane! It\u2019s a vulture!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fish and birds are blessed by God. How awesome is that? And remember that the creation of these things happened with just the sound of God\u2019s voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then His grandest creation of all! \u201cThen God said, \u2018Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky\u2026\u2026\u201d \u201cSo God created mankind in his own image\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Finally, in all His glory, God created man and woman. And He blessed them too. And on the heels of that blessing, He told them to have babies. \u201cBe fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it!\u201d (Genesis 1:27\u201328). HELLO multiplication! It\u2019s like our Heavenly Father knew that His blessing needed to move from Him to us and from us to our children and grandchildren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just like that we are CREATORS \u2013 blessed by God! Here, for the first time in recorded history, we\u2019re introduced to the idea of blessing. The blessing. God\u2019s blessing over people — you and me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is something about \u201cblessing\u201d! I\u2019ve resolved to bless my family with words and touches. In fact, every single day I do just that in my morning text messages to my four children (spouses included) and my six grandchildren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We take after our Dad, Father God, when we bless others. When we say \u201cGod bless you\u201d \u2013 we are following in His footsteps and in His voice. We bless others when we HALT because we see someone hurting by the weariness in their face. We offer a prayer of blessing over them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And, today, I bless you and your loved ones! I am a \u201cchip off the old block\u201d and so are you! May we become bestowers of God\u2019s blessings. Maybe that\u2019s a calling He gave us right from the beginning\u2026..when He had all of us in mind!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
