Oh, how I wanted to be my friend, the Class Clown. She could make any situation funny, without even trying. She was my roommate, Lois, at Canyonville Bible Academy in Oregon. She always had me, and others, in stitches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now, I have a husband who is like that, too! BTW \u2013 please forgive me for my incessant referrals to this dear, hilariously funny man. He has surely given me lots of new content for my daily blogs. He not only makes me laugh, but he is also a crowd pleaser. Without a moment\u2019s notice, he\u2019ll share a story with a hilarious punchline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Months ago he planned his birthday (October 5th). He signed us up for attending a 55+ event at Highland Lakes Conference Center in Spicewood, TX. About an hour drive from our home, it was a day of humor and inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first entertainers were \u201cSunday Drive\u201d, a multi Dove Award nominated group from Knoxville, TN, composed of Jeff Treece, his wife, Misty, and brother, Dusty. With smooth rich harmonies, they have had multiple Vocal Group and Entertainer of the Year honors. Among those they have performed with are the Gaither’s, the Oak Ridge Boys, David Crowder and Big Daddy Weave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Their music quality was off the charts as they gave us a joy-filled and upbeat experience. But the icing on the cake was the comedic relief that Jeff provided. They really were light to us that included sharing the good news of Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Wednesday, last week, we attended family night at our church. After a delicious meal, we broke into Bible Study groups. I attended the packed-full room of women. After the speaker shared her personal story of realizing God\u2019s mercy and supply, we broke into small groups and shared our stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I shared about finding my wedding dress at a moment\u2019s notice and the hilarity that came in how I found it. I won\u2019t go into detail here but suffice it to say I had them laughing \u2013 even to the point my group wanted me to share it with the entire room. Not to be boastful, but I had them belly-laughing. Yay! At last I was “the class clown!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Laughter provides so much healing. We need the serious ones who make us think and help us to be better. But we also need those merry, lighthearted comedians, too — the ones who can pull out the humor, joy, and lightness, even in dark moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many times, encouragement comes in \u201cjoy and light\u201d medicine. Proverbs 17:22 says: “A merry heart does good like medicine.\u201d And I Corinthians 12:27 says: “You are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” I think some folks are called to be the FUNNY BONE!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you are a \u201cfunny bone\u201d, carry on! Celebrate your wit and humor and know you are a vital part of the family of God. And, if that isn\u2019t you, and humor isn\u2019t your natural “bent”, celebrate the funny ones in your life. They need you and you need them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And if you need some healing today? Laugh. Make someone else laugh. Bring laughter into your home, your life, your friendships. You need a Class Clown in your life because sometimes those are the exact people God uses to bring about the healing you\u2019ve waited for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, did you hear the one about what the horse said after he tripped? “I’ve fallen and I can’t giddy up.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
