With every election season, the question echoes louder: who can we trust? As I watch candidates vie for leadership, I can\u2019t help but wonder\u2014are they people of integrity? Wouldn\u2019t it be refreshing to know that what they say is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Integrity seems to be in short supply these days, not just in politics, but in families, churches, and businesses. I remember having my own sleepless nights when something wasn\u2019t right in my life. I would toss and turn because I had said or done something that didn\u2019t measure up to integrity. Only after I faced the issue, apologized, and set things right did peace return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The word integrity comes from the root of \u201cinteger,\u201d meaning a whole number\u2014not a fraction. It\u2019s not divided. That\u2019s the essence of integrity\u2014wholeness, honesty, a life that\u2019s not divided between right and wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A man found a wallet full of cash while walking through a park. Without hesitation, he took it straight to the police station. When the wallet\u2019s owner came to collect it, they were stunned to find every dollar still inside. \u201cWhy didn\u2019t you keep the money?\u201d they asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man simply replied, \u201cBecause it wasn\u2019t mine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s integrity in its purest form\u2014doing the right thing, not because someone is watching, but because it\u2019s the right thing to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Proverbs 10:9 says, \u201cPeople with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed.\u201d It\u2019s hard to imagine how anyone can sleep soundly when their lack of integrity is tearing apart families, institutions, and even governments. Some damage is irreparable — lives disintegrate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus taught us to \u201cbe perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect\u201d (Matthew 5:48). This isn\u2019t about perfectionism, but about wholeness, especially in how we love and treat others\u2014even our enemies. It\u2019s a challenge, but real integrity begins when we let God heal our fractured hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The good news? When we walk with integrity, God notices, and He\u2019s delighted. Proverbs 11:20 reminds us, \u201cThe Lord detests people with crooked hearts, but He delights in those with integrity.\u201d I\u2019m going to put ME at the top of my integrity list.
