Imagine. We\u2019re on a boat drifting down a calm river. Suddenly, the wind picks up. Waves begin tossing us around. Boatloads of water are coming in the boat. In a panic, we grab a bucket and start scooping water overboard as fast as we can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We\u2019re sweating and wearing ourselves out, convinced that if we scoop hard enough, we\u2019ll keep afloat. Meanwhile, the Captain approaches and asks, \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d We look up, a little frantic, and say, \u201cI\u2019m saving us from going under!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Silly, isn\u2019t it? Yet, how often do we try to take on burdens that belong to God?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe battle is not yours, but God\u2019s.\u201d (2 Chronicles 20:15) This verse reminds us that, despite our best efforts, it\u2019s not up to us to calm the storm. We\u2019re not the Captain. We were never meant to hold the ship steady. That\u2019s God\u2019s role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We\u2019re worn out from trying to bail water from sinking marriages, financial worries, health issues, even the world\u2019s crises. We jump in with all we\u2019ve got, desperately trying to control what only God can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We know we weren\u2019t built to carry it all, so we finally throw up our hands and say, \u201cGod, I can\u2019t do this anymore!\u201d That\u2019s when we realize truth — He\u2019s got us, firmly and lovingly in His hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God isn\u2019t disappointed in us for not being able to do what only He can do. The load isn\u2019t ours to bear. When we surrender, we aren\u2019t failing; we\u2019re allowing God to take His rightful place as Captain of our lives. And only then can He steer us through any storm with His power and grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, let\u2019s let go of the bucket, take a seat, and trust the One who commands the waves. When we say, \u201cLord, I\u2019m done trying to do what only You can do,\u201d He says, \u201cGood. Now, let\u2019s get something done.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
