I\u2019ll admit it. Some days I’m not so humble. I get so fixated on who commented or liked or loved my blog, that I fail to remember it is HE Who deserves all the honor and praise. Less of me, more of Him. That I might decrease, and He increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
John the Baptist is one of my heroes of faith and role model. WOW, did he ever exude humility! The two cousins \u2013 Jesus and John \u2013 had mamas that were so close that when Mary, pregnant with Jesus, showed up at Elizabeth\u2019s home, pregnant Elizabeth\u2019s baby boy, John, leapt in her womb. They were quite a foursome. Jesus and John were more than cousins \u2013 they were \u201csoul and spirit\u201d brothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just think how John could have been jealous of Jesus, but He continued to say things like: \u201cHe must increase, but I must decrease.\u201d (John 3:30)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I agree with John. I want that, too! I desire that when others see me, they see Jesus. I want any attention I get to deflect off me and land right to He Who is worthy of all praise. He must increase, but I must decrease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this \u201csurvival of the fittest\u201d to gain the most followers or take the best selfie, it is easy to allow the self-praise desires to cloud the path to Christ. That\u2019s why I am inspired by the humility of John the Baptist. When given the opportunity to claim personal fame, he deflected the attention to Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I wonder how much of what we do proclaims to the world, \u201cmore of you, God”! Amid racking up those likes and loves, are our efforts leading others to Christ or is our popularity score more important?
Lord, please help us show You off and be a pointer to You as an example of true humility. And when the world seeks to capture our attention with promises of glory or fame or accolades of any kind, may we point to the One who deserves all our praise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
