Six dollars for a dozen? Then, as if the Holy Spirit gave me a gentle nudge, I caught myself. “Do not cry over a broken egg OR even spilled milk!”

Oh, how often do we let little mishaps change our attitudes to grumpydom and wimpydom! A broken egg, a spilled cup of coffee, unable to find our keys, traffic that makes us late, so many small things try to steal our joy. But James 1:2-3 reminds us:

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”

Now, I know James wasn’t talking about kitchen disasters, but the principle applies. Life will hand us broken eggs and spilled milk — sometimes even shattered dreams and unexpected detours. We can choose to get frustrated, or we can laugh, clean it up, and move forward with a lighter heart.

My most used scripture for reference is Romans 8:28 which says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” If God can take the real messes of our lives and turn them into something good, surely He can redeem a broken egg.

So today, I flipped the script. Instead of crying over it, I wrote about it. Because life’s little hiccups aren’t just inconveniences — they’re opportunities to grow, to laugh, and maybe even inspire someone else along the way.

And hey, at least it wasn’t the whole carton. We still have eggs for another day AND I’ll be much more careful to watch for rolling eggs!

Yesterday morning, I was simply making breakfast.
