This morning, Carl and I will board a plane for Cabo San Lucas, thanks to our children who made this trip possible. It\u2019s love week — a time to celebrate marriage, life, and the incredible gift of slowing down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We could have easily stayed in Austin, but when your kids insist that you enjoy life to the fullest, well — you don\u2019t argue. Heavens, no!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why Cabo? Why not? The ocean, the warmth of the sun, and the sound of waves rolling onto the shore are all invitations to breathe deeply and rest. But as much as I\u2019m looking forward to this trip, I know something to be true — God\u2019s peace isn\u2019t reserved for sandy beaches and tropical getaways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rest isn\u2019t about location. It\u2019s about positioning our hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Psalm 46:10 tells us, \u201cBe still and know that I am God.\u201d That\u2019s not a suggestion; it\u2019s a call to slow down and recognize His presence. Even Jesus, in the middle of His ministry, stepped away from the crowds to pray (Mark 6:31). And Psalm 23 reminds us that God leads us beside still waters and restores our souls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whether we\u2019re on a flight to Mexico or pushing a cart through the grocery store, God is with us. Whether we\u2019re gazing at the ocean or watching the sunset from our own backyard, He is there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe your \u201cgetaway\u201d is five quiet minutes in the morning before the house wakes up. Maybe it\u2019s rolling the windows down on a drive, letting the fresh air remind you that you are loved. Maybe it\u2019s sitting in a pew on Sunday morning, feeling the weight of the week lift as you worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wherever we are, whatever season we\u2019re in, we can lean into God\u2019s rest. We don\u2019t have to wait for a vacation or a better season of life. Peace is available right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So today, let\u2019s pause. Let\u2019s breathe. Let\u2019s remember that the same God who created the ocean also designed the stillness of our hearts. And whether we\u2019re watching the waves or watching our grandkids run around the living room, we can rest in Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
