While in Denver, Carl and I, along with dear friends, signed up for a hands-on cooking class at Sur La Table. Now let me tell you \u2014 this wasn\u2019t your average \u201cstand back and take notes\u201d kind of night. No, sir-ee! We had aprons on, knives in hand, woks sizzling, and eyebrows raised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme? Date Night \u2013 Touring Southeast Asia. The result? Four delicious dishes and one unforgettable evening.<\/p>\n\n\n

There were four cooking groups. Ours? A mighty trio: Carl, our friend Ron Mullen, and yours truly. (Our sweet Lynnda stayed home to care for their under-the-weather pup \u2014 and perhaps unknowingly dodged a culinary crisis.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, full confession: if there had been a prize for \u201cMost Likely to Burn Water,\u201d our group would’ve won hands-down. We were the \u201cspecial needs\u201d team \u2014 self-named, joyfully clueless, and laughing the whole way through.<\/p>\n\n\n

We chopped. We stirred. We dropped things. Our menu included Shrimp Spring Rolls with Peanut Sauce, Lemongrass and Chile Grilled Chicken, Fresh Rice Noodle Salad, and for dessert \u2014 Cream Puffs with Coffee Cream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At one point, soy sauce may have gone airborne. Our spring rolls looked more like burritos, and our cream puffs\u2026 well, they could\u2019ve doubled as coasters. Interpretive art, we called it!<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But here\u2019s the miracle: it was delicious. And even better, it was fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That night reminded me of something important:
We\u2019re all in life\u2019s kitchen \u2014 learning, stumbling, burning a few things, and hopefully laughing as we go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not everyone\u2019s life is Michelin-starred. Some of us are holding it together with duct tape and prayer. But when we show up, offer what we have, and let the Master Chef take the lead \u2014 something beautiful always comes out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Taste and see that the Lord is good.” \u2014 Psalm 34:8<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So if you feel like you\u2019re in life\u2019s \u201cspecial needs\u201d group \u2014 welcome. God\u2019s not looking for perfect chefs. Just willing hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
