A dear friend \u2014 a loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother \u2014 was recently diagnosed with cancer. Just weeks before, she was in full mom-mode, helping her daughter prepare for the wedding of her dreams. The photos were pure joy: decorating the venue, fixing every detail, and beaming with love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then came the diagnosis. Life can screech to a halt like that \u2014 one unexpected turn, and the road you thought you were on suddenly changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is where I hold onto the words of Jesus in Matthew 11:28-29: \u201cCome to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest\u2026 and you will find rest for your souls.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let\u2019s be honest \u2014 sometimes what we call \u201crest\u201d doesn\u2019t work. A nap leaves us more tired. Lounging on the sofa watching Wheel of Fortune can stir up more frustration (\u201cThey win $100,000 with a spin, and someone else is praying for $500 to fix their car!\u201d). Dissatisfaction creeps in, and restlessness returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus offers something far deeper: soul-rest. He doesn\u2019t ask how we got weary; He simply invites us to lay it down. This isn\u2019t just physical rest \u2014 it\u2019s a peace that seeps into our mind, body, and spirit. It\u2019s the assurance we are unconditionally loved, safely held, and never alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Soul-rest grows in the soil of trust. It\u2019s not enough to say we trust God \u2014 we have to lean on Him with our full weight. Each time we deliberately choose trust, fear loses its grip, anxiety backs off, and worry can\u2019t boss us around. From personal experience I have learned the relief that comes from letting God be God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you\u2019re overwhelmed, exhausted, or feeling like you\u2019re running on empty \u2014 whether it\u2019s from illness, loss, responsibilities, or the grind of daily life \u2014 hear Jesus\u2019 invitation: “Come to Me”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
True abundance isn\u2019t in busyness or success \u2014 it\u2019s in a life overflowing with His love, anchored in His peace, and restored in His presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lord, thank You for restoring our souls. Teach us to trust You fully so we can rest deeply in You. Amen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
