On July 4, 2025, a precious family from Kentfield, California, gathered at their river home in Hunt, Texas. None of us could have imagined that the fierce floods of the Guadalupe River would sweep away their cabin and take the lives of Sara, Mark, and their teenage son, Johnny. Only their 16-year-old daughter, Ellie, survived while attending Mystic Camp nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sara was one of Carl’s daughter’s best friends. After growing up together in grade school and high school, Sara was in Amelia’s wedding. Amelia was in Sara’s wedding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Friday, we joined countless others at the Celebration of Life for Sara, Mark, and Johnny Walker. Tears filled our eyes, but so did love. Each of them was remembered with stories that painted a picture of faith, joy, and kindness. Sara was the connector \u2014 the glue of family and friends. Mark was a steady husband, loyal son, and proud father. Johnny was a gifted athlete, a treasured brother, and a friend to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A moment I\u2019ll never forget was when a guitarist softly sang: \u201cIt only takes a spark to get a fire glowing.\u201d That simple melody became a holy reminder. Their lives, though far too short on this side of heaven, sparked countless flames of love, generosity, and encouragement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the mystery of grief, we cling to God\u2019s promise in John 14: \u201cDo not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father\u2019s house are many dwelling places\u2026 I go to prepare a place for you.\u201d These words steady us when our hearts tremble.<\/p>\n\n\n

God never teaches us through tragedy; He walks with us through it. He is the anchor who keeps us from sinking. He is the healer who gathers our shattered hearts piece by piece. Though we cannot make sense of the loss, we can trust His ways are higher, and His love is unshakable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Walkers\u2019 legacy is clear: live with courage, connect with love, and let your spark shine bright. May we carry their flame forward until we too are home in the Father\u2019s house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even in the floodwaters of grief, God\u2019s love remains our anchor. The Walker family\u2019s legacy reminds us: it only takes a spark to set hearts glowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
