I\u2019ll be honest — I don\u2019t like being corrected. Do you? It\u2019s embarrassing. Especially if someone points out my mistake in front of other people. I\u2019d much prefer a quiet whisper in the corner than a neon sign flashing \u201cShe goofed!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But as much as we dislike correction, it\u2019s good for us. Correction keeps us from drifting too far, from saying the wrong thing, or from running headlong into a disaster. And here\u2019s the kicker — we\u2019re in good company. Even Jonah had to be corrected. And let\u2019s just say his \u201ctime out\u201d came with a whale of a lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Job 5:17 puts it this way: \u201cHappy is the person whom God corrects! Do not resent it when He rebukes you.\u201d That\u2019s not how we usually feel, is it? Happy isn\u2019t the first word that comes to mind when we\u2019ve been called out. But God\u2019s correction is never cruel. It\u2019s always motivated by love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Like any good parent, God loves us too much to let us keep running in the wrong direction. Jonah learned the hard way. The more he ran, the worse the storm got.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sometimes we\u2019re the same. We run, we resist, and eventually, the storm catches us. Not because God is mean, but because He wants our attention before we drown in our own stubbornness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Correction isn\u2019t punishment — it\u2019s protection. God knows what\u2019s up ahead, and He wants to guide us back before the waves get too high. His correction is proof of His care. Hebrews 12:6 says, \u201cThe Lord disciplines those He loves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jonah\u2019s storm calmed the moment he surrendered. Sometimes peace comes not when we fight harder, but when we finally lift our hands and say, \u201cLord, I give up. I\u2019ll do it Your way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So maybe today He\u2019s nudging us — pointing out a direction we need to change or reminding us to step up our love walk. It\u2019s not condemnation. It\u2019s compassion. And it\u2019s His way of saying: \u201cI love you far too much to leave you stuck.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Correction, when it comes from God, is never the end. It\u2019s always the beginning of a fresh start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
