Have you ever walked past a glass door and spotted those unmistakable little fingerprints \u2014 chocolate smudges, jelly streaks, or mysterious sticky dots you hope aren\u2019t what you think they are?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The evidence is real. We know exactly who left it. And those sweet little hands? They had no clue the mess they were making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It took maturing (and a lot of gentle \u201cgo wash your hands!\u201d reminders) for those little ones to finally learn how to wipe, rinse, and keep things clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now we\u2019re grown-ups. We know how to wash up. Our hands stay mostly clean, and our friends kindly whisper when lunch is still on our face. But while we scrub the outside pretty well, Psalm 24 reminds us that God is looking deeper:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWho may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place? Only those with clean hands and a pure heart\u2026\u201d (Psalm 24:3\u20134)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clean hands aren\u2019t just about soap. A pure heart isn\u2019t something we can buy in a bottle. Therapy, self-help, and affirmations have their place, but there\u2019s only one true heart cleanser \u2014 God Himself. David prayed it this way:
\u201cCreate in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Life can leave its smudges on our hearts \u2014 worry, envy, half-truths, complaining, secret resentments. If we\u2019re not careful, the fingerprints of the world cover the windows of our souls until the light struggles to get through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But God doesn\u2019t just point out the mess; He offers His own deep clean. Through His Word and Spirit, He wipes away what clings, leaving us free, whole, and at peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And here\u2019s the good news: we don\u2019t have to stay stuck in the grime. We can run to the One with the ultimate cleansing power. He makes us new \u2014 inside out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So maybe today, before we reach for another antibacterial pump, we whisper a prayer:
\u201cLord, wash my hands and my heart. Clear away the smudges. Renew my spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clean hands are good\u2026 but a clean heart? That\u2019s life-changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
