Oh, the importance of friendship! Some time ago, I realized that even surrounded by people, I can feel completely alone. I’ve been on both sides — feeling alone AND when my bestie is near, I am at peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mother Teresa once said, \u201cThe most terrible poverty is loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved.\u201d I have felt that. My outgoing self wanted to jump into conversations, but my inner introvert (yes, she still exists!) whispered, \u201cMaybe they already have their inner circle!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In my mind, the perfect friendship looks like this:
When we\u2019re discouraged, our friend listens and prays.
When we\u2019re celebrating, our friend brings the cake.
When we’re cranky, our friend gently says, \u201cSnap out of it,\u201d and makes us laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In short \u2014 this friend is straight out of 1 Peter 4:8: \u201cAbove all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And yet\u2026 even the \u201cbestest\u201d of best friends will miss a call, forget a birthday, or occasionally say the wrong thing. We\u2019re all human. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The truth? There is a Friend who never disappoints. Psalm 62:1-2 reminds us: \u201cMy soul finds rest in God alone\u2026 He alone is my rock and my salvation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When we\u2019re discouraged, our dearest Friend comforts. When we\u2019re joyful, He celebrates. When we\u2019re frustrated, He brings peace. He doesn\u2019t just know the right words \u2014 He knows our heart. He knit us together, so He understands us better than anyone ever could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And once we rest in that truth, the pressure comes off our earthly friendships. We can let people be beautifully imperfect. We stop demanding that anyone fill a role only God was designed to hold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, when we find ourselves in a crowded room \u2014 let’s smile. Because — our Best Friend is already there, saving us a seat, whispering, \u201cYou\u2019re not alone, beloved. You\u2019ve got Me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The best friendships are gifts, but the truest Friend is guaranteed. When we rest in our Lord and Savior, even lonely places feel full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
