True confession here. DIY isn’t our forte’. For our marriage’s sake — best to leave the driving — er’ the building or fixing to someone else. We learned that INH aka “I need help!” is often a really good character trait!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These days, \u201cDo It Yourself\u201d seems to be everyone\u2019s motto. We\u2019ve got YouTube tutorials for a variety of things. You can learn how to build backyard pizza ovens. There are also guides for crafting charcuterie boards that look too beautiful to eat. If we are crafty enough — we can find out how to do it online!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Somewhere along the way, though, our \u201cI can do it myself\u201d attitude spilled over into how we handle life. We\u2019ve become spiritual DIY-ers \u2014 tackling our problems solo, refusing to \u201cbother\u201d anyone, and pretending we\u2019ve got it all together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We post smiling photos while our hearts are crying out for help. We mask our loneliness, our exhaustion, and our need for grace with \u201cI\u2019m fine!\u201d and a nervous laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But here\u2019s the truth: God never designed us to do life alone. He built community into our DNA. He built dependence into our faith. He built INH (I need help!) in us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That’s why I love our Wednesday Night’s Women’s Bible Study and our Sunday Lamplighters Group. We draw closer in our friendships and other group activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even the Apostle Paul \u2014 that powerhouse of perseverance \u2014 admitted in Philippians 4:13 that he could \u201cdo all things through Christ who strengthens\u201d him. But right after that, he added, \u201cIt was good of you to share in my troubles.\u201d (Philippians 4:14) Translation: even Paul needed people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s time to ditch the spiritual tool belt and hang up the \u201cI\u2019ve got this\u201d sign. Sometimes the most courageous thing we can do is say, \u201cI need help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And sometimes the most Christlike thing we can do is notice when someone else does. Galatians 6:2 says, \u201cCarry one another\u2019s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So maybe today\u2019s project isn\u2019t a new craft, recipe, or home remodel \u2014 maybe it\u2019s building bridges instead of walls. Maybe it\u2019s calling that friend who\u2019s been quiet. Maybe it\u2019s letting someone in on your mess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because in God\u2019s Kingdom, DIY was never the plan. It\u2019s DIT \u2014 Do It Together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
