A New Home for Elvis’ Jet
I’m sure this sounds like a frivolous start to today’s blog. Bear with me. I’m going somewhere! It is no secret that I was an Elvis Presley fan. I took in every newsworthy story about him. I junkied on his movies and songs. He was my teenage heart throb.
I’ll never forget the day I met Elvis. My young husband and I were attending a Gospel Quartet Convention in Memphis, TN. As a teenager, my husband’s piano teacher was Joe Moscheo, who was also the piano player for the Imperials Quartet. The Imperials, at that time, were the back-up singers for Elvis. Little did we know he would be at the convention. He came just to walk on stage, so the Imperials could honor and thank him for elevating their careers.
Joe gave us a backstage pass so we could see him before he left the building. My heart was racing. I was a basket case – just thinking that I could potentially get near him. My cassette tape recorder was ready.
When Elvis was coming our way to the door, I quickly put the recorder on. Elvis nodded at me, and as he passed me, I reached out and touched his shoulder. I shrilled into my recorder: “I JUST TOUCHED ELVIS PRESLEY – the King of Rock n’ Roll!!” Now, decades later, here is my mature self, still sharing about that encounter. Oh me!
So yesterday, when I read news that Elvis’ private jet was sold and a new owner will transform it, I had to check it out!
A Robb Report reported that Elvis bought the red-and-silver JetStar in 1976, a year before his death, for $840K (about $4.4 million today). The new owner, James Webb, purchased the jet for $234K. He will sell the wings and refurbish the jet into an RV, tour the country and raise money for charities. I read that Webb used every dollar he had to make the purchase.
Isn’t it something to hear the unusual stories that make headlines? Honestly, I wouldn’t have known about this story were it not for 1440 Daily Digest, an email I receive each day that gives me current news headlines. If it sounds like an interesting development, I’ll click the hyperlink and read on. I read on this day!
Now, I get to the moral of telling that story with my own HEADLINE! What better headline to click on than the ONE Who deserves headlines AND Who is alive and well. My encounter with Elvis, doesn’t hold a candle to what I found to be THE headline maker. In fact, this Headliner didn’t just nod and pass me by either.
I am ever so grateful for the encounter with THE King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ, Who is alive and well! I could be hyperlinking all day long with what I learn of Him. There is nothing, or no one, to compare to the encounters I have with Him daily. This Headliner, changed my life forever.
My joy, peace, comfort and hope lie in knowing Him. The more I encounter Him in my prayers and praises, the more I think about Him. And the more I think about Him, the closer I get to Him. Best of all, I’ll get to be with Him forever. How sweet it is to have a relationship with THE King, and even better, that I’m a part of His royal family.
Have you met Him? I can get you Someone better than a “back-stage” pass. I’d love to introduce you to Him and get you a one-way ticket to heaven someday. You’ll find Him to be a friend that is closer than anyone you will ever know, and I guarantee you –that encounter is one that will change YOUR life forever! Eternity with Him is worth it all!
P.S. I hope Elvis made it there. It will be awesome to meet up with him. Wonder if he’ll be wearing his “Blue Suede Shoes”?
