Getting Enough Sleep?
Watching King Charles’ and Queen Camilla’s coronation apparently had me on high alert for news about them. I fell prey to an article that talked about their sleeping arrangements. One line on social media caused me to investigate, rather, “chase a squirrel”!
Britain’s Wellness editor, Melanie Macleod, stated: “King Charles and Queen Camilla are undoubtedly very much in love, with public appearances always seeing them laughing and joking together, but reports say the couple do not share a bed!” What? How can that be? I couldn’t stop there – I HAD to read on!
The article continued: “There’s no trouble in paradise. It’s customary for royal couples to sleep in different bedrooms. King Charles and Queen Camilla reportedly have three bedrooms; one each and one to share – and their decision to have separate bedrooms has a positive impact on King Charles’ health.
The monarch is well-known to suffer from back pain from several polo mishaps in his younger years. He even travels with a cushion to alleviate aches, and sleeping alone is believed to help ease his back pain.
According to sleep expert, Martin Seely, sleeping in a position that puts strain on the neck or spine can lead to chronic pain and discomfort.” You’re welcome!
Honestly, I humor myself when all it takes is a rabbit or squirrel to give me my next blog. Oh me!
I am a light sleeper AND a sleeper who gets only about five hours of sleep at night. It’s perfect for my early morning blogging, but lest you think I’m not getting enough sleep, don’t be concerned. Most every day, I carve out a few minutes for a nap. It does wonders for my get up and go!
In the Psalms, David shows that peaceful sleep is possible. It is an act of trust. “I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me” (Psalm 3:5-6). He also said, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” (Psalm 4:8). And, “….for He gives His beloved sweet sleep.” (Psalm 127:2)
Thank you, King David, for those wise words. Obviously, getting a good night’s rest shows that we know God is in control. Sometimes the godliest thing we can do is to get a good night’s sleep. If we’re not getting enough sleep, we are not at peak performance for ourselves and for when God nudges us to share His wisdom with someone.
Through faith and complete trust in our Lord, we can rest in Him. He is sure to give the best things to His beloved – and one of the best things is sleep and quiet leaving of what matters to God.
Remember how Jesus slept amid the ups and downs of a storm at sea? He knew that He was in his Father’s care, letting the billows rock Him to sleep.
Take it from me. There are times when I wake in the night and sleep is far from me, but I visualize being in the bow of the ship and I remind myself of His words. “I give my beloved sweet sleep.”
I claim that. I am His beloved so sweet sleep is mine! I also remind myself of Isaiah 26:3 “Him I will keep in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Me.”
Between that rocking boat, and thinking about my Father, before long I’m back to sound sleep – without a care in the world. May sweet sleep be yours, too!
