God Called an Audible

God Called an Audible

I was already writing my blog yesterday about humility and kindness before this encounter. So this is the sequel to that blog. My loyal, faithful, comfortable, resting place extraordinaire, cozy brown recliner had to go. At least my children thought so. It didn’t go with the new contemporary furniture and accessories that now donned my wonderful apartment. I know it didn’t, but it was really, really hard to say “Good-bye” to it. There were many naps and dreams and sweet comfort found there.

But, when the new and improved leather recliner arrived, I had to release my hold on the old one. First, I put a little blurb in our group FB page that anyone in my community could take possession of this “throne” for no money down and no money required. No takers. All of us in this community have downsized, and, like me, no one had room for it.

Since I wasn’t getting much traction on my appeal, I decided to put it on FB Marketplace for a “steal” price — $50. I boasted “perfect condition, clean, most comfortable chair EVER”. And the first one who showed promise to buy and pick up asap, came through. I warned him the chair was heavy and he would need to bring along help. He did. Two strong looking men showed up in a pick-up. I brought them in my apartment and let them try out the chair. It was love at first sight and first sitting test. He pulled out a $100 bill and I gave him is $50 change.

As they were about to leave, after loading the chair up in the pick-up, the older man said “This chair is going to Mexico for Father’s Day. Our good friend is extremely ill and always must keep his legs up. This chair will be such a blessing to him.” Da ta ta da! I hear the sound of angels or was it God’s voice I heard? All I know was my heart was stirred. Out comes from me: “Hold on just a minute!” I quickly run back in my apartment, get the $100 and rush back out. I tell the younger man, “Please give me the $50 back. I want to be a part of your mission!” And, I return the $100 to him. They were both stunned and the older man said: “You are a fine woman.” I took that and prayed that I am.

I tell you this story because I know that’s the way God intercepts our passes. He calls an “audible”. I know enough about football that I know what “calling an audible” is. The football team has a play in place and then the quarterback notices a need for change because he sees that play not working so he calls an audible and they go a different route. And, in my case, THE “quarterback” called an audible and the game changed. I’ll often say to my children or someone else, “Since I’m a woman and am subject to change daily, I’ve decided to do this rather than that.”

I love it when I know that I’m in harmony with God. How good it feels to yield to His ways, His timing, His divine set-ups! I suspect there were those on the other end praying for healing, for a solution to the sick man’s issues. And, here was a little widow lady in Austin TX who was on the same radar screen. God intersected and provided the opportunity for two worlds to collide. ALWAYS, His ways are so much higher than our ways. Let’s keep her hearts and eyes open for exchanges like this. How sweet it is to be loved by God enough that He can trust us with His ways to make a difference to someone today!
