Hanging Out at the Well
Jesus sat by a well. Jacob’s well. Jacob gave that well to his son, Joseph. So, what well are WE digging for OUR children?
Jesus is on purpose. He is waiting on a woman. This woman with a past comes at noon because she doesn’t want to deal with the talk of others.
Jesus says to the woman, “You don’t even know what I have put inside of you. It is so great.” Jacob’s well isn’t just a place to sit. Jesus wasn’t talking about H20. Jesus shows up in this woman’s situation.
And, you and I have been at our wit’s end. Jesus came to tell us to sit with Him a little while. In sitting with Jesus, we find out who we really are. Sometimes we sit with the wrong people who make us feel less than Jesus ever would. The woman knew what was in her.
That’s what I love about my Lord Who talks with me and tells me I am His own. Just to sit with Jesus even for a minute. He might show me something within me that I never saw before. When I sit with Him, I am seated with Him in Heavenly Places.
Can we sit for a minute — by the well that will never run dry? When we sit with Jesus, we will see Him Who is that Living Water. “They that wait on the Lord, will renew their strength. They shall bound up like eagles. They shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
We MUST drink this worship! We MUST spend time with Him. God knows our thirst. On the cross, He was thirsty too. He said to the woman, “Come to ME! I am the water that will never run dry.”
In the end, the Samaritan woman abandons her water jar and runs to the city. She can’t wait to tell others about this encounter. And, we shouldn’t be able to contain all that He is in us and must be determined to share it with others, too!
The woman doesn’t wait to share her story. There is a good chance no one will believe and receive it. She tells them anyway. And it has a powerful impact.
Our stories may seem lackluster, but not to those Who God will touch their hearts through us.
When we encounter Jesus, our story can have a ripple effect. It drops into the hearts of those who long for the same freedom. Our words may not be eloquent, but that doesn’t mean His miracle isn’t evident.
Not all will receive our story, but those who do will be drawn a little closer to Jesus. It is He who will speak into their need and their encounter will be as personal as our own.
Romans 10:14, “But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?”
