It’s a Wonderful World

It’s a Wonderful World

July 2nd was Brennan’s 18th birthday. Valeria, our mayordomo here in Cabo since 2009, has been like a family member since the boys were very young. She prepared Brennan’s birthday meal that was fit for royalty (steak, lobster, and shrimp). And her gift to all of us was Roberto Fiallo, a foremost guitarist who always inspires and delights us when we go to our favorite restaurant here, Romeo and Juliet’s. To our beautiful meal, was the background ambience of Roberto’s magical music.

July 8th was Brennan’s girlfriend, Kylie’s 18th birthday. It was also a day of celebrating the 56th wedding anniversary of my husband and me. Romeo and Juliet’s restaurant was our go-to place for this special day of celebration. I was delighted, once again, to hear Roberto playing his captivating guitar music.

During our meal, we were talking about our friend’s mother who is under hospice care and the beautiful people who are seeing after her. That reminded me of the social worker who blessed us with his tender loving care when hospice was such a gift to us.

It was our first morning home after a two-week stay in the hospital. Now my sweetheart was on hospice. I couldn’t imagine all that must have been going on in his head as he looked out our bedroom windows that were opened wide.

What a special blessing it was that our bedroom windows faced the little lake adjoining our back yard. It was a beautiful morning. Fall was in the air. The water was smooth as glass, the fish were jumping, and the birds were chirping loudly. Feeling the serenity of the moment calmed us and made us very aware of how blessed we were and how thankful we were despite our new circumstances that seemed like a bad dream.

Our doorbell rang and our new Social Worker, Melvin – a beautiful African American man, exuding the most tender and gentle spirit, led us to believe God had hand-picked him just for us. After asking us many questions, it was our turn. We asked what he liked to do. He mentioned he loves singing in his church’s choir. I asked him to sing for us. Immediately, he broke into Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”.

How befitting to hear such words as we had already been experiencing that wonderful world as we looked outside at God’s creation. We knew God was orchestrating our lives. It was a sweet moment for me when I was able to share about us to our Cabo group.

Shortly after I shared, Roberto had a set break and came over to our table to greet us. Ryan shared about how much I love his music. That’s when he handed Ryan his CD and he handed it to me. Imagine the God-wink I sensed when I saw the title of his album, “What a Wonderful World”! Heaven kissed me. God cares about what we care about!

Please let me assure you that wherever you are, whatever you’re going through – God cares, and rest assured there is a “reason for these seasons” of our lives. We know that nothing surprises God. God is a proud Father Who has a plan, a destiny, and a purpose that He specifically designed for each of us to fulfill.

May we keep our eyes and ears wide open when God reveals His reasons for these seasons. In the meantime, take a deep dive into being very aware of His unfailing love and faithfulness to us like never before. We should not be moved by the circumstances we see. Instead, we continue to be steadfast, unmovable, unshaken, and always prepared for God-winks and kisses from heaven.

And I think to myself: ”What a wonderful world.…what a wonderful God….what a wonderful life!”
