It’s Time to Flip the Script
A couple of days ago I blogged about this wonderful new season of Fall making its debut. Gratitude commenced with great expectations. Despite the pandemic and political unrest, we still live in a land where life is good. We take many things for granted. The air conditioning stayed on, and we awoke to a comfortable temperature. If it was dark when we awoke, we reached for a light switch that lit up the way for us. We walked into the bathroom with running water, inside the house, and you’re reading this blog over your phone or computer that powered on.
We take so many things for granted until something doesn’t work. The alarm doesn’t go off. It’s hot in the house. The light switch is non-responsive. Our car breaks down and our child misses the school bus. We get frustrated. We think, “Why me? What did I do to deserve this? My life is supposed to be comfortable.”
It’s time for us to FLIP the SCRIPT.
Hear me out. While our world of plenty makes it through the inconveniences, most of the rest of the world plays out a very different script. Outside of our country or outside of our neighborhood, there are ominous problems that most of us can’t begin to comprehend. Covid and other illnesses still kill the weak, people are dying in need of food, storms have ravaged lives and homes, there is political and civil unrest, there are homeless all over our cities and much of humanity is abused. It’s time we flip the script to the things that really matter.
This blog comes from a place in my heart that is full of gratitude that I live on this side of plenty, especially when refugees desperately are trying to come into our “land of the free and the home of the brave”. I want to flip the script in my heart and mind to pray, to care, to do what I can to make a difference.
And, what about our complaining and worrying about this and that when we are so blessed? How can we live in the yesterdays of disappointment and pain, when God promises He will never leave us or forsake us, and He will turn our mourning to dancing and our sorrows to joys? Every day our minds are bombarded with thousands of thoughts. Is the script we hear the one written by God? Or are they lies from the enemy? God commands us to take our thoughts captive. THAT is flipping the script. THAT is taking what God says in His Word as our best weapon to defeat the enemy.
It only takes a fraction of a second for the enemy to whisper lies to us: “You’re worthless. You’re not important. You’re useless. Nobody likes you. You’re all alone. You are a failure.” We go to great lengths to protect our homes and our belongings. We would never knowingly invite a thief into our home, so why would we allow thoughts that steal our joy and peace of mind to make themselves at home in our mind?
It’s time to FLIP the SCRIPT!
~~ Know what God’s Word says, so that when the enemy of your soul tells you, “You are weak!” You can fight back with the truth that says, “No! In Him, I am strong.” Isaiah 40:31
~~ When the enemy says: “You are a failure!” Respond with the truth that says, “No! “I am more than a conqueror!” Romans 8:37
~~ When the enemy tells you, “You are rejected!” You can fight back with the truth that says, “No! In Jesus I am accepted.” Ephesians 1:6
~~ When the enemy tells you: “You are a victim!” You can fight back with the truth that says, “No! In Christ, I am victorious.” 1 Corinthians 15:57
~~ When the enemy tells you that, “You are all alone!” You can refute his lies with the truth that says, “No! I am never alone.” Joshua 1:5
Are you ready to FLIP THE SCRIPT? I know that I am!
