Jambys – the Perfect Gift
Jambys says they have the perfect gift this holiday season. They say: “Look no further than Jambys, the world’s most comfortable loungewear. No matter who you’re shopping for, Jambys has the perfect cozy gift. Jambys makes the perfect Christmas morning family outfits. The best part? Your family will wear these the other 364 days, too. (We’re currently in ours.)”
So….you’re welcome – if you’re looking for the perfect gift. The word “perfect” is the operative word here. Perfection found! Well, hot dog! I’ve been looking for the perfect gift. But, if you’re not convinced that is the perfect gift, then I recommend gift cards.
Well, maybe not so much. Do you see this stack of gift cards? They are ones that my husband has had in his dresser drawer for God knows how long. One, he doesn’t take them with him. Two, he couldn’t remember how much was on those cards, so I connected with the merchants and they are valued at hundreds of dollars.
So, the PERFECT gift maybe isn’t found in a gift card if we don’t use them. But, if we use them, they are great because we can buy anything from that store. But why not just give good old hard, cold cash? What’s the big deal of the PERFECT GIFT being a Gift Card?
I insert here that on our bus trip to Georgetown on Sunday, we were each given a different Christmas question to answer. My question was: “If you had a choice of receiving a gift card, where would you like it from?” My response: “THE BANK”
I, too, have given gift cards, but then I think about my husband and his reluctance to use those cards and I really wonder if they are the PERFECT gift. Maybe the receiver doesn’t even shop at the store from where the gift is given. And, from personal experience with a gift card given me, it may take what seems forever to find something I need or even want. So, perfect? I don’t think so.
So, then, what IS the perfect gift. The gift I am speaking of is the PERFECT GIFT personified. The ONLY PERFECT GIFT we could ever give, is that of HIM, Who is the PERFECT One, Who isn’t a tangible someone who may be here today and gone tomorrow. That is NOT our PERFECT ONE. Our PERFECT ONE is our ALL in ALL, BEGINNING and END of joy, comfort, peace, life, love, happiness, and life everlasting.
So how do we give that PERFECT GIFT to others — by giving ourselves as peacemakers, heart-mending servants who exude and are joy-peace-hope bearers, by being LIGHTS that this world so needs and wants.
Though Jesus is the ultimate, ever-ready, radiant, source of LIGHT that dispels darkness…..He told us in Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shines to all that are in the house. Even so let YOUR light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
So, in the hustle and bustle to find the PERFECT gift this season, may we first, and foremost, gift ourselves to others. May we be lights that shine so brightly that others hunger and thirst for the utmost in perfect gifts – our Lord Jesus Christ
