Letting Go and Letting God
When Carl and I were first getting acquainted at 2022’s November election polling place, he asked where I lived, and I told him about my 55+ community. He remarked: “My daughter is wanting me to sell my home and move into a place like that.”
Fast forward……nine months and he is living in THAT community! Yay! Now, we are in the throes of getting his home ready to sell. We have already begun selling some of the furniture and items on social media. Now we are preparing for an estate sale. That means tons of sorting, trashing, giving away, pricing, and setting up for the sale. I woke in the middle of the night, overwhelmed with what all we must do.
My sis, Karen, and I were in the estate sale business in Tulsa, so when Carl married me, some “perks” came with it and now it is getting this “show on the road”!
We have some travels planned and that means we are “nose to the grindstone” so that this sale takes place sooner than later. We are under a crunch, and crunches often mean being in the “pressure cooker”!
I am reminded of this scripture: “Put your trust in the LORD your God, and you will stand your ground. Believe what His prophets tell you, and you will succeed.” (2 Chronicles 20:20)
In all our lives, it would be easy to focus on the pressures, the crunches, the burdens and the problems instead of focusing and trusting in God. In our prayer time, we talked about the details and the time limits and constraints, but then we realized we’re not fighting this battle alone. God is our partner in this.
Rather than focusing on the things that overwhelm us, we started realizing that we must shift our focus to who God is and what He’s promised to do for us. Life is full of experiences that test us, drain us, and nearly wipe us out. But, God.
When we are overwhelmed — we stand strong. Standing strong is an attitude of quiet confidence in the character of God. We will be successful when we put our trust in what He says to us through His Word and the Holy Spirit. When we get with God, we’ll never have to give up ground because we are standing strong.
It is tempting to cave under the pressure. But. God. He wants us to trust Him through the challenges and learn from them. If we run, we’ll miss out on learning from God. And chances are, we’ll need to repeat our lessons.
God is committed to our success. But we need to focus on Him and trust Him and His Word if we want to stand our ground. That’s what we did when we realized that “the crunch” is a stealer of joy and peace.
So, what did we do about it? We decided to “chill” and release the pressure by trusting God. We’ll take our time and enjoy the journey as He orchestrates and directs the journey for us.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
