Making Things Right
Making Things RightI had an aha moment as I read this scripture: “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways when they carry out their wicked schemes.” Psalm 37:7
I was amazed that my blog, yesterday, could evoke so much angst from some of my readers. Some were provoked to anger about our new president’s decisions already, others voiced positive and negative thoughts and one who commented with words too malicious for me to let stay on my timeline. His words against our former president were so disparaging that I had to delete his comments and even block him from my page. My words to him were this: “I am so sad that you can speak so negatively and judgmental about anyone, never mind our president. It is only God’s right to judge. “Judge not lest you be judged.” Matthew 7:1 “You with no sin — let him cast the first stone” (John 8:7). (Jesus’ words — not mine!) My blog today is about love, respect and honor! This is “my house”, so please reserve your comments to “your house”! God bless you! I pray for your peace.”
Hear me out. I want you to know that I did not support Joe Biden’s positions on abortion, religious liberty, sexual morality, and much more in the 2020 presidential election. But, despite my biblical and personal objections, Joe Biden is my president. If you are an American citizen, he is your president as well. And, if we are thinking “all is lost” because of our new president, then let’s do something to change it. Let’s partner with our state and local organizations who are actually pursuing and helping to make changes to abortions. Look at Missouri. It just became the first state to no longer perform abortions. Let’s get involved with groups that are working on the grass roots level and are having tremendous success in lowering the count of women who might have had an abortion were it not for their efforts. I suggest that we all do more of what we CAN do rather than becoming angry and bitter about what we can’t do.
We have a voice to use to express our opinions to our leaders who represent us. Whatever side we are on in our belief system, we must still be representatives of Christ. The way we respond to the 2020 election will either harm or enhance our witness for our Savior. Not all Americans share our biblical values, just as we will not share the secular values of secular Americans. We should not seek to impose our beliefs on them but to persuade them by living our values with humility and sharing our faith with grace.
Here’s the bottom line: Joe Biden is our president, and Jesus is our King. We should diligently pray for God’s wisdom to our new president, his cabinet, congress, and military leaders. They need our prayers even if they are not the candidates we voted for and even if we don’t like what they say and do. Interceding for those in authority is not an option. It is a biblical command: “I exhort, therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2
Here’s the good news. God’s perfect judgment WILL put things right! If we can believe in a God Who is going to execute judgment with perfect justice, then we can leave it in His sovereign hands and do what Jesus told us to do: “Love your enemies”! Whew! That’s the test. It’s a TIME WASTER to complain and moan the state of the world when we know the end of The Book’s WINNING outcome. So many of the world’s problems would be solved if people believed in the fact that there is a God Who judges justly, and we can trust Him to put things right in the end.
