My Mouth has a Helper
It is early afternoon at the Family Center with my jewelry department co-volunteer, Susan, and I see a beautiful, very-pregnant woman approach our jewelry counters. Susan is a thoroughbred Jew and is a delight.
Susan is all about giving God’s love to everyone – regardless of culture or religion. We get along so well. She has a tremendous amount of knowledge about jewelry, so she examines and prices our fine jewelry for us.
Back to the very pregnant woman. My friend sees the necklace she has on is the 17th letter of the Hebrew alphabet and asks the woman about it. The woman explains that she is not a Jew, but the “pey” necklace was given to her by a Jewish friend.
The pey (seen here) means “mouth”. She went on to describe what it has meant to her. Because she had issues with some of the words she randomly spoke, the pey has been a blessed helper. She asked God to make it burn if she were about to say something she shouldn’t or something she should say.
I quickly retorted: “Oh I need to get me one of those!” She immediately takes off the sterling silver necklace and hands it to me. I resist, but she quickly replies: “Yes, you must have it!” I am in shock with tears flowing. She and her mom depart our area to go through the store.
This young woman is in the store because she is five days overdue and her mother and her are doing what they can to help her baby make her debut.
I can’t help myself. I must go find her and thank her again. I record her words. She explains further about the Pey. She said: “It is about speaking words of life. I needed to be sure I was fully armored in the Word of God, that my sword was sharpened and that I would have the right words to say. I must make sure what I say is from the Lord.”
She goes on: “I want to pray for you. Lord, I pray for Donna because this is a divine appointment filled with You, Father. You have such a big plan for Donna and I can just see that she is going to be rising up in hope and faith for the people that come into this store. She is going to be a light bearer for the people that can’t see. Thank you, Lord, that I could bless her which is a blessing to me. If we even ask for a divine appointment, you give it to us because that is the desire of your heart. Double portion, Lord, for Donna. Amen.”
I share with her about this blog that God inspires me with daily. How precious is God that He would reveal His favor and love to me from this beautiful woman. AND give me a symbol that encourages me to ensure my words are His words.
I share this story with YOU, my dear friends, to assure you that I am no more special than you. God desires to use you, your story, your life, your heart and your giftings to touch others. God gave me a symbol, the pey (mouth), I know, as a helper to be sure I speak only what He speaks.
God desires to bless you with His favor. Yield to His Spirit when you sense a nudge from Him to call someone to encourage them; yield to His Spirit when you sense to volunteer at your church, a charity, a food bank or even to those around you; yield to His Spirit in what you say or not say! Obviously, God knew I needed a tangible helper. Thanks, God, I needed that!
