Our Home Here & in Heaven
The first home that we officially owned was in South Oak Cliff (suburb of Dallas). That little 1,100 sq ft home was smaller than the apartment I live in now. I took this photo when my granddaughter, Alexia, and I were traveling to Austin a while back.
I wanted her to see her Papa and Nana’s beginnings. Alexia’s mother, my Staci, was brought home there from the hospital as a newborn. How proud we were to own a home. I noticed that the present owners of the house still have that little board in the opening of the front porch. We put it there so we could describe our little house as Spanish! LOL!
My husband’s uncles were in the construction business and took that little home in on trade. We purchased it from them for $7,000. How proud we were to be homeowners!
For all of us, whether our homes are a tent, a mobile home, a brick-and-mortar home – small, medium, or large, “home” is where the heart is!
What is your dream home? Maybe it’s a beachfront villa or a cabin on a lake. Maybe it’s a castle high on a hill or a modern apartment in a bustling city, like I live in today. We each have a different picture of what is ideal for us.
I segue in this “home” review to HOME of all HOMES! The more “mature” I get, the more longing I have for the “home” on streets of pure gold that Jesus said He was preparing for us. (Revelation 21:21)
Heaven is for real, and Jesus has each of us in mind as He prepares to bring us to our perfect dwelling place. He knows us through and through. He knows our deepest desires. He knows what makes for our ultimate happiness. And He is preparing a place suited just for us.
But that place is so much more than size, looks, number of rooms, and whether it has a swimming pool. More than the particulars, best of all it is where we will find God Himself, the One Who quenches every thirst and satisfies every longing.
Nothing that we currently experience could add to the happiness that we will know when we see our Lord, face-to-face! Our eyes will be opened to the beauty, holiness, and power of God. I’m sure that vision will take our breath away!
Jesus promised to take us to Himself so that where He is, there we also will be. And that makes heaven infinitely better than any dream home on earth!
Perhaps, you are dreaming about your new home on earth — sizing up the costs, making sure the bedroom sizes are just right, with an adequate number of bathrooms, the décor that complements the style and all that your dream home will have in the most exclusive gated community. Go for it! But keep this in mind…….
Jesus promised to take us to Himself so that where He is, there we also may be (John 14:3). In His presence – in heaven – everything will be infinitely better than any dream home on this side of heaven! Is heaven your destination? If not, please change courses and make it so!
“In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places….” (John 14:2) Mine has my name on it! I just know it. I hope you all live in the same neighborhood as me!
