Pillow Promises

Pillow Promises

Seems the new “sleeping” trend these days is satin pillowcases. That is one of the Christmas presents on my granddaughter’s list last year that I purchased for her for $49. So, when Bed, Bath and Beyond was having its store closing sale, I bought two at $4.50 each. I wanted to see if what “they” said was true and at that price, it was worth the test.

So, I put one of those satin pillowcases on my pillow and lo and behold, it does what it was supposed to do. Apparently, satin absorbs less moisture than other bedding materials like cotton. That allows the skin to retain more moisture, which in turn helps prevent dry or itchy skin. Satin is also less likely to absorb any lotions or serums we might use in our bedtime skincare regime. And, it helps our hair as well!

When I woke up the next morning, I remembered the softness of the pillowcase, that I didn’t toss and turn like I did normally and when I looked in the mirror, my hair was still like it was before I went to bed. So, if you were needing a true-blue, authentic reference for satin pillowcases, I just gave you one. You’re welcome.

Now, hello, to this blog today! Just writing about pillowcases and pillows at this early hour of the morning, makes me want to go back to bed to embrace my pillow and fall back into a deep, sweet sleep for at least another hour. Aw! Embracing sleep and embracing God’s promises.

The truth of God’s promises comforts and provides rest and peace for His children. I am one of those children. You are one of those children. And, as I lay my head on my pillow each night, I take in those promises from a daily app called Lectio 365. I start my day and end my day with God as I use this app and its beautiful devotions.

Oftentimes the gentle, soothing voices of the readers put me right to sleep. My heart and my head rests on the pillow of God’s promises. They are the comfort and means of rest to my restless soul. When my head is spinning with less than positive thoughts, I lay my head down upon the pillow of grace, mercy, and love. I know that I have peace with God and that He is faithfully conforming me to the image of His Son.

What an immense and unspeakable privilege we have each day as Christians to lay our weary heads down upon the pillow of God’s promises. We are given the privilege of sleep, rest, and a daily spring of new mercies.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is His faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

I have found that the promises of God ease my soul when it is troubled. Those promises are my “go to” when anxiety or disappointment fill my head and my soul isn’t at rest. Oh, the joy, peace, rest, confidence, and comfort that comes from the glory of God’s promises.

Unlike a pillow, God’s promises never wear out and always meet us with the comfort and refreshment we need at any given time. The Psalmist says in Psalm 23:2, “He MAKES me lie down in green pastures to restore my soul.”

Those pastures represent the precious promises that comfort, refresh and restore us. If you could use some rest from weariness in your soul, please go lie down on the pillow of God’s Word that is full of promises. Excuse me while I cozy into those promises right now.
