Solid Rock Foundation
Having been in real estate for many years, I know what poor foundations look like in homes. It is a major deterrent to a sale when the home inspector detects foundation problems. The resale value of a home with a failed foundation, even one that has been repaired with a lifetime warranty, will be substantially less than a home that has never had a foundation issue.
We were grateful when we could confidently say to our buyers: “The foundation on this home is “rock solid”. Even more important than our home’s foundation, is OUR personal foundation being “rock solid”. “Rock solid” means we are people of character, integrity and are stable, reliable, confident, and unlikely to change or fail. Our moral compass keeps us grounded with doing what’s right and when others disappear, we can be counted on for strength and solid support when others need us.
You may be scratching your head to try to think of who those people are in your life. Since I am putting it out there (with one finger pointing at you and four pointed at me) the question isn’t who those people are to us but are WE “rock solid” to God and others?
If others see us as temperamental, moody, whiny, indecisive, unpredictable, and if needed, they are nowhere to be found, we can change that. We can determine to be “rock solid” in our commitment to love and serve others, to be trustworthy, reliable, loyal, dependable, and unwavering. We can determine to be that friend who others can count on — at a moment’s notice. Every day is a new day to be the best version of ourselves that we can be, for ourselves and for others.
Rock Solid Faith — In these uncertain days and times (mask/no mask, vaccination/no vaccination, war/no war, civil unrest/civil rest, death/life, etc.) we need a “rock solid” faith that will hold fast. When the winds of circumstances, storms of calamity and floods of affliction come, we need faith like an anchor. In Romans 5, we learn how God builds us up to have a rock-solid faith: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (Romans 5:1-2).
No pain goes unnoticed. In fact, God sees to it that every pain, trial, and circumstance are part of the necessary ingredients for rock-solid faith. Tough times mean pressure and God uses pressure for our good. (Romans 8:28) Our endurance is built through our ability to withstand pressure. When conflict comes, some retreat, but those with “rock-solid” faith, stand strong because in that standing, comes spiritual “rock-solid” muscles.
There is nothing more important than being “rock solid” in our faith. Our greatest example of “rock solid” is He Who is THE SOLID ROCK that we can always count on. He is “the ROCK that is higher than I” (Psalm 61:2). He is reliable, strong, immovable, eternal and unchanging. In Him, we can find that place of comfort, shelter, peace and, above all — the faith and strength we need to carry on — strong and determined and with great expectation for joy and victory in our todays and our tomorrows!
This photo is of my two little guys and me in Cabo San Lucas just a week after my sweetheart went to heaven. The second is just this year and in both instances, I stood, and I still stand on my Solid Rock and in Him, I become rock-solid, too!
