Thanks to the Superheroes and the Big Picture

The word “superhero” has been redefined during this global pandemic. Once superheroes were the highly paid celebrities, professional sports figures, and those always in bright lights. They were also those in the world of Disney, DC and Marvel Comics. I remember my comic books that taught me about superheroes first. I lived vicariously through those comics! Oops — telling my “golden” age here!

Even before the pandemic – I admired, respected, and appreciated the real heroes in our world – our first responders – paramedics, police, firefighters, medical professionals, pastors, caregivers, teachers and on and on. Thankfully, “superheroes” during this pandemic has become a name that certainly defines those who have been on the frontlines for us. We have seen what real, live heroes look like. I am so grateful for their sacrifices for us.

I’ve seen plenty of super-hero movies. All those guys have impressive “super” powers, but none of them can compare to the ultimate SUPER-HERO who my parents depended on during the toughest of times and who I’ve depended upon during my own challenging times. I’ve consistently reminded myself of the BIG PICTURE. Not what I’ve missed or not what I think is best for me, but what God is to me. If there’s a BIG PICTURE that I learned from my parents — it was their faith that knew no bounds. In the times of my dad’s sickness and the times of his graduation to heaven, I knew it wasn’t my mom’s own abilities — it was her dependence on her SUPER-HERO. Psalm 24:8 — “Who is the King (Super-Hero) of Glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle.” My Super-Hero has sustained and blessed me far beyond worlds of imagination.

We tend to think that in this month preceding what will be the most important election ever in the history of our Country — that one of those men will become our Super-Hero and turn our Country around. Then we’ll live in a blissful utopia where everything will be alright from that election forward. But, au contraire! Please, let me introduce you to the One, the only, the real, true Super-Hero Who can make things right. It’s not what we know. It’s WHO we know that counts. I know Him. And I love that my family knows the difference in those make-believe superheroes and the REAL ONE. When I or one of my children or grandkids are ill or afraid or concerned about something in our lives, we don’t call on Iron Man or Captain America for relief. We call on our King of Glory — strong and mighty — to touch us with HIS mighty powers…and He does!

The BIG PICTURE is our GREAT big God Who sees all and knows all, loves us beyond what we can think or imagine. He’s the reason why I am so joy-filled, optimistic and so free – regardless of who our president will be. I know Him — personally and intimately. He’s my Lord — strong and mighty — my King, my Superhero, my everything….and that’s THE BIG PICTURE – from here to November 3rd and beyond. And, with Him, I know that everything’s gonna’ be alright!
