The P & P Factor
I learn something new every day! This day I learned about the P & P Factor from my daughter, who is in the heat of Texas’ summer, while awaiting electricity to their new property in Rusk, TX. No electricity in that neck of the woods means over-the-top hot days and nights. While overseeing construction, they are staying in their RV on the property, but their generator goes off and on, making their tiny home a steamy 96 degrees inside. I pray with them for the electric company to get them power asap!
Despite the heat, they are at peace. They are grateful for the beautiful 62 acres of heaven on earth for the retreat center and transitional homes that will be built as a source of hope and healing for many. So, while they could pack up and head to their townhome in the city, they are “pioneering” in the heat like the old days.
This is where the P & P Factor comes in. Staci shared that they looked for the P & P Factor when they searched high and low for this property. I wondered what that was, and she explained that it is one of the barometers they used to determine where they would buy property. The first “P” represents peace – where they could hear birds chirping, bees humming and trees blowing in the wind – NOT the sound of traffic! Nature naturally sits at 30 dBs (decibels) and is soothing to the soul and allows us to be one with creation. Traffic, noisy restaurants, lawn mowers, etc., top over 70 dBs. Their ranch carries a 36 dBs factor. Sweet peace!
The other “P” they required stands for pee! If you can pee off your back porch and no one can see you, it’s a keeper. LOL! Shocking revelations! So, the conditions where I live, with the earth-moving, rock-crushing equipment going on behind where I live, the sound decibels must be off-the-charts. And, about that “peeing off the back porch” – IMPOSSIBLE! My patio faces many other patios. I’ll have to find my peace in some other way!
There’s something to be said for the choices we make for the three C’s: convenience, comfort and compromise. It’s “different strokes for different folks”. But as I stated in my blog yesterday, inner peace, should never be compromised. What goes on in our external world doesn’t hold a candle to what goes on within our internal world. We MUST be the security guard, the gatekeeper, and the bouncer that guards our hearts and our minds.
While finding external peace in our environment may be good, not everyone can escape the city to “pioneer” their way to 30 dBs. Instead, we must find an internal peace that passes all understanding. Even on their ranch, my children have plenty of opportunities to lose their peace. Like the inconvenience of a hectic, heated, and exhausting day. But when I call her and ask, “How are you doing?”, her response is always “Blessed and highly favored and the joy of the Lord is my strength!” She is my mini-me. Actually, she has outdone me in living in a peace zone. There’s no contest when it comes to living in peace. We are all on the same team and living in peace in a world that often seems like anything but peaceful, is what we should have true “team spirit” about.
I sincerely want you to know this “peace that passes understanding – that will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6) And that, my friends IS the key for being the keepers of our hearts and our minds. God’s peace that passes all understanding. God’s great peace be with you!
