Who Cares?
Let’s just get straight to the point of that question and give it an answer. God cares! “The LORD is near to those who are discouraged; He saves those who have lost all hope.” (Psalm 34:18)
Life is filled with unexpected circumstances. I wish you could see my FB Messenger and the people who reach out to me for answers to why them? Who cares?
Some of those unexpected circumstances knock us flat on our back — like my tax accountant who had to send in an extension for my tax returns. I sent him all my paperwork in February! I was done. He wasn’t. I like to think I’m his #1 client. But, apparently I am not. When I checked in to see if my tax-work was completed, he replied: “I broke my shoulder and we are looking at replacement!”
So, yes, there are surprises that can knock us flat on our backs. They make us feel like the roof of our life has caved in.
So, what do we do when our world collapses? When the dreaded phone call comes? When the divorce papers arrive? When the bankruptcy is filed? When the loved one faces a health crisis?
The first question most people ask is, “Who cares?”
We’re still in the 40 days of Christ walking the earth after His death and return to life. After Jesus was killed, His disciples met together but locked the doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders who had sent Jesus to the cross. The disciples felt like they were alone, and because of that, they were afraid and expected the worst.
But then something happened that changed everything: “Jesus came and stood among them and said:, ‘Peace be with you!’ Then He showed them His hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.” (John 20:19-20)
The difference was immediate. The presence of Christ turned their panic into a party, their fear into good cheer.
During every moment of our lives, from the very best to the very worst, God is with us. He cares for us. We will never walk through something hard alone. In fact, God is never closer than when we are in pain.
He tells us: “When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up. The flames will not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:2)
Are you hurting today? Are you asking, “Who cares about me?” Are you afraid that no one does? Rest assured. God cares. He has never left you. He is with you now. He has been with you all along. You are not alone.
May we believe that today and choose to believe that the One Who loves us most is the same One Who cares the most. May we experience His peace that passes ALL understanding as we give our hearts and minds a rest today. “Him I will keep in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Me!” (Isaiah 26:3)
