Worry Less
WORRY LESS?? That’s what I’m thinking about today. I bought a new computer because the old one literally passed away – along with all the data in it. Ugg! My QuickBooks accounting program was in it and I need that program and data for preparing my tax returns.
Also, there’s the scam “issue” we got entangled in and now are having to deal with it. Oh, and our car? There’s a crack in the wheel AND the air conditioner isn’t working.
And, where we live, many residents have Covid or the flu and are having to quarantine themselves. The gatherings we usually enjoy have had few attending.
I just received my call-of-duty as an election official in the upcoming elections. For many, that brings great angst on determining who will serve our Country best.
So here we are dealing with all kinds of “stuff”! I’ve seen this on t-shirts: “Life Happens – Coffee Helps!” Maybe that’s true for some, but for others, nothing seems to help. The worries and concerns seem to be mounting up and keeping us from God’s peace that passes understanding!
The truth is we do have plenty to worry about. Yes, tax season will be here before we know it. Then there’s identity theft and our computers being hacked. Then there’s the concern for our children’s safety and, oh yes, their grades. And, what about our dear friends who are suffering and are in pain and dealing with chemo and radiation?
When worry takes over our lives, we are unable to think straight and our minds get muddled. But good news is we can still stay focused and open to acknowledging God cares about what we care about.
“Cast all your cares (anxiety) upon the Lord, for He cares for you,” is a well-known verse from 1 Peter 5:7. Peter shows us the comfort that comes from God when “life happens”. God doesn’t want us to worry. That’s why we find the words: “fear not” 365 times in our Bibles.
So, as God’s children, should we fall prey to fear and worrying? Would He teach us to walk only to watch us fall? Would He give us life, to watch us fail? The answer is a resounding “NO!”
Philippians 4:6-7 speaks to us as a command – not a suggestion: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything you can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
Thank you, Lord, for your Word that reminds us that “You’ve got this, and You will never leave us or forsake us!” I needed this blog today! I know God loves us so much that He goes so far as to give us ideas, creativity, clarity, and confidence that fuels us to help us make it in times like these.
God has a wonderful plan for our lives, and that plan includes taking care of us. So, let’s purpose to WORRY LESS and SMILE MORE OFTEN! I’m quite sure that’s what makes Dad mighty proud of His kids!
