Clear Conscience = Sweet Sleep
Yesterday I spoke about the beauty of rest — even for a few minutes in the middle of my day. Let’s take it a step further today!
Have you ever noticed how good it feels to lay your head on the pillow at night when your heart is at peace? A clear conscience really does bring the sweetest sleep.
Sure, we stumble. We say things we regret. We think thoughts we shouldn’t. We leave good things undone. Mistakes are part of being human. But the miracle is this: just like an earthly father who loves his children beyond words, our Heavenly Father opens His arms wide with forgiveness when we come to Him sincerely.
David prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). That same prayer can be ours. And God answers. He wipes the slate clean, breathes peace into our souls, and reminds us that we belong to Him.
When we choose what’s right — when we follow His lead instead of our own ideas — it’s like making Dad proud. That joy and assurance settle over us, and our hearts grow light.
Proverbs 3:24 says: “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” Sweet indeed, because we know we are forgiven, covered, and loved.
There’s nothing quite like the peace of God when we close our eyes at night. It’s better than the softest pillow or the coziest blanket. It’s rest for the body and refreshment for the soul.
So tonight, when you crawl into bed, whisper this simple prayer:
“Father, thank You for Your forgiveness. Wash me clean, renew my spirit, and let me sleep in peace.”
Then pull up the covers, smile, and drift into His sweet rest.
“I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8).
Clear conscience. Sweet sleep. Peace like no other when we’re resting in our Father’s forgiveness.
