Election Day – God is Still in Control

We are off and running to our “last stand” (literally) as Election clerks this morning. We anticipate voting lines out the door. Heartfelt passion and commitment has been sensed during the days leading up to today.

It’s Election Day, and the nation is buzzing. But before the votes are counted and decisions announced, let’s settle our hearts by remembering that God still reigns supreme — no matter the results.

We may feel a mix of hope and tension. After all, Election Day stirs up strong feelings on all sides. Let’s be grateful for the privilege of choosing leaders and shaping our future with God’s mighty hands still in control.

I know exactly what this day will bring — another day of God’s perfect sovereignty. He will still be in charge. He will still manage the affairs of the world. Never, has His providence depended on a king, president, or ruler. “The LORD can control a king’s mind as He controls a river; He can direct it as He pleases.” (Proverbs 21:1)

When we realize that God influences the hearts of all rulers, we can then choose to pray for them rather than fret about them. Rather than wring our hands, we bend our knees, we select prayer over despair.

Jeremiah did this. He wept at the condition of the people and the depravity of their faith. But then he considered the work of God.

Note the intentionality of his words: “I have hope. The LORD’s lovingkindness never ceases. His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentation 3:21-23

Let’s imitate Jeremiah. Let’s lift our eyes. Let’s dare to believe that good things will happen. Let’s dare to believe that God was speaking to us when He said: “In everything God works for the good of those who love Him.” (Romans 8:28).

Even greater than any election: our real hope is anchored in a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Leaders and policies may come and go, but God’s reign endures forever.

Philippians 4:7 tells us of “peace that surpasses all understanding,” a peace that can quiet our hearts no matter what the headlines say. God is not only aware of this moment; He’s already woven His goodness through it.

So, when the results start to roll in, let’s remember the One who holds every leader and every nation in His hands. This is our assurance. No ballot box can contain the plans of the Almighty.

No matter who “wins” tonight, we have a King who already reigns — steadfast, unchanging, and good. Let’s lean into that peace and walk forward in faith and joy because God is still in control!
