Embracing God’s Good Gifts

 Embracing God’s Good Gifts

Yesterday, I wrote about hearing God’s voice. Oh, how important it is to welcome THE VOICE, embrace THE VOICE, and — most importantly — actually hear THE VOICE. Which brings me to a confession…

I’m in a new season — one I wasn’t planning on stepping into. It all started with a card from Miracle Ear that said, “Receive a FREE $50 Amazon Gift Card — just come in for a hearing test.” Easy enough. I thought, Sure, I’ll collect my $50, prove my ears are as sharp as ever, and go on my merry way.

Well, “pride goes before the fall” — or in this case, before the hearing aids. An hour later, after all the beeps, hums, and “raise your hand when you hear this” moments, the results were in.

Apparently, when I’m in a crowd, conversations were slipping right past me. The solution? Tiny, invisible hearing aids. WHAT?!

At first, I bristled. Glasses, okay. But now gadgets in my ears? Vanity and pride whispered, This is not what I signed up for. But gratitude quickly spoke louder: thank God for technology that helps these body parts last a little longer!

And oh, what a difference! I can hear conversations without strain, laughter without guessing, and whispers without leaning so far in I practically tumble out of my chair.

It got me thinking — how often do we suffer from “spiritual hearing loss”? The noise of fear, worry, and distractions drowns out God’s still, small voice. Before long, we forget what clarity feels like.

Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27) His voice cuts through the chaos, but we need spiritual amplifiers — prayer, Scripture, worship, fellowship — to tune our hearts to Him.

So now, glasses help me see. Hearing aids help me hear. And both remind me that I don’t want to miss a thing. Not the laughter of my friends. Not the voice of my husband. And certainly not the whisper of my Savior saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (Isaiah 30:21)

Yes, there’s a cost — but the benefit is priceless. Thank God for technology that helps these body parts last a little longer! Even better, thank God for His Spirit who keeps our hearts tuned to His voice.
