Finding Our Way Home
Let me tell you about the most lost I’ve ever been — more than once or twice! Picture this: new city, unfamiliar streets, and me, utterly convinced I could find my way back home without asking for directions. Spoiler alert: I missed my road home each time.
I had just moved to the metropolis of Frisco, Texas. The other time I had just moved to the bustling megacity of Austin. I decided to head out with my trusty GPS as my official guide. Bad idea.
Minutes turned into hours as I circled the same blocks, each turn leaving me more bewildered than the last. I felt like a contestant on a twisted game show called “Lost — Needs to be Found”!
Each of those times — it was new friends, new city, new location, and a deep sense of being unanchored. What had been familiar and a comfort zone, made me feel like I had lost my footing.
Losing my footing made me feel like I’d lost a part of myself. How could I ever get back to feeling secure?
Unanchored. That’s how I felt. But never should we stop at lost! We follow the trail of crumbs guiding us home. Those times of navigating myself through a new city was handedly done by my GPS aka my Anchor – my God!
God, our Anchor, is our home. Anchored. That’s the answer with God. He is our home. He is our constant that keeps us steady.
When everything else changes, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). In Him, we find our true home.
Home is where the heart is, and for those of us who are believers, our heart is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). There’s only surrender, trusting that God has us securely anchored.
Change is normal, but God keeps us in perfect peace when our minds are stayed on Him. Abide in that peace, in that home, anchoring ourselves in God’s eternal embrace.
So, no matter how lost you may feel, remember this: God is our home. And with Him, we are always found.
