Giant Slayer Training Starts in the Fields

Giant Slayer Training Starts in the Fields

David was the youngest of eight brothers, a shepherd boy armed with nothing more than a sling, some stones, and a whole lot of confidence in his God. To most, he was just an errand boy — delivering bread and cheese to the real warriors.

But what his brothers didn’t see — and what Goliath severely underestimated — was that David had already been through God’s boot camp.

Out in the fields, away from the spotlight, David fought off lions and bears to protect his father’s sheep. That wasn’t glamorous work. It didn’t get applause or likes or followers. But it built grit. Grit that would one day silence a mocking, armor-clad giant with one smooth stone and a heart full of holy boldness.

David’s victory wasn’t about luck or skill. It was the overflow of daily obedience — saying yes to God in the small things, trusting Him in the quiet places. And when the opportunity came, David didn’t ask for armor or permission. He just stepped up, slung that stone, and let God aim it.

Here’s our reminder: before God crowns kings, He trains shepherds. You may feel like you’re stuck tending sheep — doing the unnoticed, unglamorous, “Why am I even here?” kind of work. But that job? That chore? That responsibility? It’s shaping the kind of warrior who won’t back down when giants show up.

Luke 16:10 tells us, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” David’s life proves it.

So don’t despise the field you’re in. Don’t downplay the lions and bears you’ve already faced. Every single battle is prep for the bigger one ahead — and the Holy Spirit is your ultimate weapon. You’ve got what it takes, because the One who called you is faithful.

Maybe you’re facing giants today — an illness that seems unconquerable or a bank account that isn’t paying the bills or a relationship that seems buried. I assure you of this – those Goliaths may come — but so will victories.

Step up. Sling high. Speak boldly. You were made for this. You don’t need armor when you have anointing. God’s prepping you in the pasture for your promotion. Sling that stone, giant slayer!
