Happy First Day of Fall – September 22nd

September 22, 2022 Off By Donna Wuerch

Hooray! My favorite season begins today. I just wish Mother Nature would keep up with the date, because it’s still in the upper 90s here in Austin. Word has it that we’ll get to three digits again in a few days! They call it “global warming”! Whoohoo!

I know the heat waves will subside before long and everything will be bursting with color as if nature has been saving up all year for the grand finale! Here’s to celebrating this first day of Fall with a heart full of gratitude.

Never mind the weather, I’m helping it out in my meager way! I brought out my Fall decor — what little I kept from tubs and tubs of Fall decor. Gone are the days when my home looked like a Fall Festival where I had more Fall decor’ than I could shake a stick at.

You can see my meager attempt here at making my home entry look celebratory! I helped the photo out by adding a frame to it. Not sure that helps much, but, it brings me joy to celebrate, even in a small way, these next three months of Fall and Thanksgiving and before we know it, here comes Christmas!

Pumpkin patches are appearing and carving pumpkins will be part of many families’ celebrations. I’m zoning into the upcoming sights, sounds and smiles that accompany the changes. More than anything, I want to be empowered by a heart of gratitude, charged up by expressions of joy. I choose thanks-giving and thanks-living!

As this new season begins, let’s purpose to be noticers — to notice the numerous reasons to be thankful; to notice when someone needs a positive word spoken to them and we answer the call!

As noticers, we can be thankful we can breathe without devices to help us. We can walk, and those who can’t, can cheer on the walkers. We can hear the sounds around us – even though there is still lots of noise from the Texas Children’s Hospital being built next door. And, we can hear dogs barking — and though they can often be annoying — still we can be thankful we can hear!

I just read that if we’re into looking up at the sky tonight, we’ll see the gorgeous Full Harvest/Corn Moon. How wonder-full is that? We can see!

Gratitude — that’s the best part of this season. We can conjur up all kinds of reasons to be thankful. That gratitude should include thanking God for the season He has us in – right now. I’m talking about our personal season of life.

Every day is a gift, and whether that day includes joy, happiness, peace, and comfort or whether it’s stress-filled and challenging, we know it’s a part of this season that God has us in — and in this season God is working ALL of the seasons for our good.

THE ONE who controls the seasons, is THE ONE who will carry us through each one. So, let’s turn up the volume on gratitude. Let’s wake up that heart of gratitude and let’s amp up our bodies, souls and spirits to the goodness of God!

“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!” 2 Chronicles 16:34
