Heading to my Secret Place

Heading to my Secret Place

July 1, 2022 Off By Donna Wuerch Noble

This morning, my grandson’s girl friend and I, will soon be boarding our flight for Cabo San Lucas. We’ll be joining the rest of the family after a week of guy fun. Brennan (turning 18 on July 2nd) was able to take six of his buddies with him to celebrate his birthday. The guys go home today and the oldest (me) and youngest (Kylie) will arrive for our time with the birthday boy!

Cabo is my family’s get-away-place-of-choice. They love it so much that they are building a home there. I’m grateful to be going to my sweet secret place. Early morning sea walks and talks with Jesus!

It was just after the first of 2010 when our son announced: “Thanksgiving in Cabo this year!” He wanted us to join his family for Thanksgiving at their place in Cabo. My husband, Ron, and I made it a part of our goals that year. As the year progressed, Ron’s health went downhill. So, when Ryan asked about reserving our flights, I said: “Faith says to go ahead and book, but wisdom says, ‘buy travel insurance!’”

On November 16, 2010, just before Thanksgiving, my sweetheart “went home” and the family arrived in Tulsa. Ryan urged me to go to Cabo with them on Sunday. Initially, I hesitated, thinking there was just too much to do.

But with the emphatic prompting of my children, I realized, “This is what my sweetheart would want me to do — to get away to be refreshed.” But, I looked and couldn’t find my passport. Ron had his secret hiding places, unbeknownst to me.

But our daughter, Staci, in her own “search and rescue” efforts, heard the words…”in my sock drawer”. Her “hearing” from God, and I believe, my honey, led her straight to that drawer — feel behind the drawer, that’s inside the drawer, and there they were. I knew that Cabo is where I was supposed to be.

There I was, embracing this place of peace and tranquility. I woke very early and walked the shore to enjoy the magnificent sunrise on the crashing waves. Oh, how sweet was the presence of my loving Father.

The day came when we went on a deep-sea fishing expedition. I was giddy. We are fisher-people! It felt like my sweetheart was accompanying us. After all, he was the consummate fisherman who always got our family fishing parties started! He would want me free of pain, worry and sorrow.

Lobo, the boat’s captain, said he was taking us to “el lugar secreto” (the secret place) to find the fish. He did. Reeling in the Mahi Mahi, shown in the photo, was a thrill of a lifetime.

To this day (12 years later) I find myself living in el lugar secreto (the secret place). Psalm 91:1,2 says: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!’”

That peace prevailed to this day and that peace instigated my blogging every day. It is my MyPeaceZone.com

Why shouldn’t we all feel this peace? No matter the chaos around us, God promised it to us if we would live in that place. It’s a choice we can make daily. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

I’m going back to el lugar secreto today — just like every day! I press on. I go forward relishing the memories, the sweetness of loving and being loved, choosing to be care-free and unafraid and daily living in el lugar secreto!

Won’t you join me there – living in el lugar secreto?
