I Gotchu!

I Gotchu!

I’ve heard it plenty at the drive-thru window. “I gotchu!” the voice says cheerfully. Then I get home and — surprise! — my fries are missing. Nope. You didn’t “got me” at all.

Curious, I looked it up. Webster’s says, “I gotchu” means loyalty, friendship, and protection through hard times. Sounds reassuring, right? But let’s be honest — life’s too unpredictable for any one person to truly have us all the time.

But I know Someone who does.

When my grandson was learning to swim, he’d teeter on the edge of the pool while I stood in the water, arms wide open. “Jump in, buddy — I gotchu!” The closer I got, the more confident he became. And eventually — he jumped. Every single time, I caught him. Not because I was perfect, but because he believed I would be there.

That’s how God loves us. He never stands far off. He draws near with arms wide open, whispering to our hearts, “I gotchu.”

We see it all over Scripture. When Joshua took over after Moses, he must’ve felt overwhelmed — talk about big sandals to fill! But God assured him: “I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.” (Joshua 1:5)

That’s not fast food fluff. That’s a rock-solid promise from the One who holds the universe and still cares enough to show up for a grandmother’s bridal dress hunt. Yes, Donna’s story is true! Tight budget, big dreams, and somehow — just the right dress at just the right shop for just the right price. Less than $200. “I gotchu,” God said — and He meant it.

From parted seas to wedding day needs, God’s track record is flawless — whatever you’re facing today — financial worries, uncertain news, heartache, or hesitation — lean into His promises. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Just take the next step. Trust His arms. He’s gotchu.

Because when God says it, you can take it all the way to the bank of heaven: He’s gotchu — and He always will.
