I’m No Genius — But I Know God
Every now and then, someone will call me a genius. And by “every now and then,” I mean never. But if it does happen, it’s for sure being an inside joke that I’m not in on. The truth is – I’m no genius!

But let’s pretend for a moment. What if I suddenly had a super mind and superpowers? Oh, the things I could do! Case in point: last week, my feathers got ruffled when some of my neighbors didn’t quite see eye to eye with me on my belief that God can heal our country and bring peace to this world.

And speaking of peace in our world — anyone who knows me knows that peace is my happy place. I don’t do well with confrontation. I also don’t do well when folks have a 180-degree different opinion than mine. So, Lord, if you’re handing out superpowers, let me speak as YOU speak, act like YOU act, and love like YOU love!

But then I think about Jesus. If there was anyone who understood what it meant to have all power and authority, it was Him. And what did He do with it? Did He call down fire from heaven? Strike His enemies with a single word? No. He grabbed a towel, took a knee, and washed His disciples’ feet.

This is what Jesus did with power. He used it to serve. He healed the sick, forgave the unworthy, remained faithful to the unfaithful, and sacrificed everything for those who rejected Him.

When He hung on that cross, the world thought He was powerless. But in that very moment, He was displaying the greatest power of all.

Jesus turned the world upside down with His definition of power. And if we ever want to know the power of God, we must embrace the heart of God.

There are no feet too dirty for Him to wash, no life too broken for Him to heal, no soul too dark for Him to redeem.

So no, I’m no genius. But I do know this: when God turns my gray skies to blue, when He turns my scars into stars, when He shows up right when I need Him most — I don’t need a super mind or superpowers. I just need Him.

“I need Thee, oh I need Thee.
Every hour I need Thee.
Oh, bless me now my Savior.
I come to Thee!”
