It’s Not About Me

It’s Not About Me

One of the most important lessons of my life has been this: It’s not about me. (Whew! What a relief.) Philippians 1:11 says we are “filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.”

That means the good in my life? God started it, and He’s the One who’ll finish it. The love that sometimes overflows in me? That’s not me being extra sweet — that’s God Himself at work, sprinkling His love where mine would’ve run out.

If I ever make a wise decision (and trust me, I’ve made plenty of not-so-wise ones), that’s not about my cleverness. That’s the Spirit nudging me in the right direction. If I manage to do something pure, blameless, or even remotely good — that’s not Donna’s résumé shining. That’s God’s grace on display.

Now, don’t get me wrong. We’re not puppets on a string. God invites us to participate in His master plan. We listen, we obey, we pray, we step out in faith. But even then, it’s His power carrying us forward.

Here’s the freeing part: I don’t have to keep up the exhausting game of comparison. My body, my age, my bank account, my holiness — all those things that tempt me to measure myself against others — they don’t tell the story. God does. And the story always points back to Him.

So, every good thing in my life (and yours) — the love, the wisdom, the joy, the blessings — isn’t proof that we’ve “arrived.” It’s proof that God is faithful. That He finishes what He starts. That He gives gifts beyond what we could ever earn or deserve.

And when all is said and done, we’ll look back and realize every bit of it was “for the glory and praise of God.”

So today, let’s breathe a little easier. It’s not about me. It’s not about you. It’s about the God who makes His goodness shine through us.

“Every good thing in my life? That’s God’s fingerprints, not mine. It’s not about me — it’s about Him.
