It’s Not What it Seems

It’s Not What it Seems

Here in Denver — our friends took us to lunch at a lovely spot called “The Jacquard”.

The food was divine, the service top-notch, and the view — beautiful. But what caught my attention wasn’t on the menu — it was on the wall.

I gasped, “Look at those shelves and shelves of books!” I was smitten. White, crisp, clean spines lined up in perfect symmetry. A reader’s dream!

I couldn’t help myself. I walked over, reached out to touch them — but felt nothing but flatness.

Our hosts laughed at me. “It’s wallpaper,” they said. Wallpaper. Not books. Not even fake books. Just the illusion of books.

And tada! There it was — a message from heaven: “Not everything is as it seems”

Have you ever believed something so strongly that no one could convince you otherwise? Maybe it was about a person’s motives, a news story, a fear, or even how you saw yourself.

Sometimes, the things we think are true — aren’t. And the things we doubt — turn out to be the most real.

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” — Proverbs 14:12

In other words, our eyes and emotions can be deceiving. That’s why we need truth that doesn’t peel like wallpaper.

God’s Word is the only thing that never changes. His promises are not an illusion. His love isn’t wallpaper. It’s deep, rich, and real.

So if life has you staring at something that looks permanent or painful — look closer. Ask God for truth. What we assume might not be the whole picture.

What looked like a library turned out to be wallpaper. Not everything is as it seems — but God’s truth is always the real thing. God’s Word = Truth and He is the Way, the Truth and the life!

“We live by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7
