It’s Sizzlin’ in the South

It’s Sizzlin’ in the South

I read that more than 30 million people remain under heat advisories across much of the southern and central U.S. Officials have linked at least 13 deaths to the heat wave.

The near-record temperatures are being driven by a weather phenomenon known as a heat dome — when pockets of hot air become trapped in place for days or weeks by variations in the jet stream.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 20 degrees above average through the weekend across the Southeast. Several cities in Texas surpassed 110 degrees. All inhabitants of cooler states, rejoice!!!

As I read those words, I immediately thought about how awful hell would be! No air-conditioning — only hot, hot, hot throughout eternity! Thanks be to God — HELL will not be my home! My home sweet home will be in perfectly, controlled climate in heaven!

I don’t know about you, but that is why I live in tight connection with my Lord! In my car, there are knobs that say: “climate control”! I use those controls expeditiously when I get into my car on these, what feels like hell-on-earth, 100+ days of summer!

The Bible describes hell as an eternal lake of fire. FIRE. FIRE = HEAT. With what I’ve come to understand about there being a heaven and a hell, there is no way I would willingly do an eternity of forever heat.

No thanks. Thus begins my campaign to work extra hard to get into heaven. I mean I really do love God with my all. That’s one of the big one’s right? The other is to love others as we love ourselves. I’m working on that. But I’m putting in extra time and working at it to ensure my passport and one-way ticket to heaven are stamped!

The overall climate of heaven must be cool if everyone is dancing and rejoicing all day long without breaking a sweat, don’t you think? Therefore, I’ve deduced that heaven must have A/C and I’ll take that over a lake full of flames any day. I’m just saying!

It may sound like I am jesting about HOT HOT HEAT, but I’m not! I really want my friends and loved ones to have their tickets stamped for heaven, too! I want to ensure we’ll meet up in that ever-after, climate-controlled, place where we’ll forever be rejoicing and praising our King of Kings and Lord of Lords. That is what I call “ultimate success”!

Ultimate success IS knowing that we know that heaven is our home. We’re going to spend much more time in heaven, than we are on earth. When we really understand that there is so much more to life than just the here and now, and we understand that this life is just preparation for eternity, we’ll begin to live differently.

Let’s get started on our heaven-bound quest right here, right now! The first step is a personal relationship with God. Life cannot be the best that God intended for us apart from Him. I urge you to “have a little talk with Jesus and make it right”!

St. Paul said, “My one determined purpose is to know Jesus…..” (Philippians 3:10) That is my purpose too, and in getting to know Jesus and loving Him with all our hearts – living for Him – sharing His love with others – that will make heaven our home sweet, cool and glorious, home!
