Just a Little Poco Loco

Just a Little Poco Loco

Have you ever felt like “your brain was one short fry of a happy meal” aka “gone poco loco” aka “a little cray cray”? We can all fess up to some of those times of: “What was I thinking?”

My grandson’s best friend is here with us in Cabo. We heard the hilarious story from Bryson when he gave us an example of what “poco loco” looks like. Bryson was with his friend when he went to get his car washed. As the car was pulled into the wash on the conveyor track, Bryson’s friend heard a tapping sound. He then crawled over the back seat and opened the back door. Immediately, the door was grabbed by one of the mechanical parts of the car wash system, causing serious damage to the back door. Bryson asked his friend: “What were you thinking?” With the high cost for repairs, I know he learned his lessons well!

Then, I heard the boys tell how they, with a couple of other friends, were playing golf here in Cabo and made it to the Taco Shack at Hole #7. My friend and I enjoyed that setting yesterday when we got our sliders and tacos looking out over the vast ocean pictured here first.

Back to the boys. They enjoyed their snacks, and then decided to cool off in the ocean. They saw the waves that looked extremely inviting but didn’t consider the strong undertow and rip currents. They told us they had never been more scared in their lives as they were being tossed around while trying to swim with all their might and couldn’t get back to shore. Each of them confessed that they were crying out to God for help. Thank God, He heard their cries and delivered them. I’m certain they learned their lessons well!

I can’t speak about someone else’s story without sharing some of my blunders! I was driving our customized van down a narrow street with cars parked on both sides of the road to get to an estate sale. Rather than considering how narrow the way was down the street, I proceeded forward. I was so close to another car that my wheel cover grabbed the wheel cover of another vehicle and peeled it back like a tin can! Lord, have mercy! I found the owner in the estate sale and soon made good for my mistake.

Then the time when Ryan and Shawntel were away and I kept the boys! Talk about “poco loco”. I was using the microwave as a timer for something I was doing with the boys when suddenly, their $1,200 microwave exploded. I turned the microwave on without anything in it instead of the timer. Oh, I learned my lesson well!

I expect that as you are reading this blog today, you might have a story or two of your own when you may have blown it too. Maybe you are there right now. If so, please believe this: “Goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life,….” (Psalm 23:6)

I have learned many lessons about God’s will and the big, “poco loco” mistakes we make. It boils down to how we look at God. The good news is that favor from Him doesn’t depend on us and our “smarts”, our wisdom OR our blunders. He isn’t waiting for us to get our act together, our head screwed on straight, or to try again and get it right the next time.

God offers His favor freely because of Christ’s wisdom, goodness, and faithfulness, not ours. It is done. Finished. Sealed and delivered. We belong to Christ. When we come to Him, He will not turn us away. Ever. He is faithful to His people. He will never abandon us. If we belong to Christ, His providential care has been the most constant theme of our life. Look for it. Trust it. Hope in it even on mistake-strewn paths.

We may have had some loose nuts rolling around these brains of ours from time to time, but we are still here today to tell these “poco loco” stories of God’s amazing grace…..again and again.

My friends, you may still be living through the consequences of some mistakes you’ve made. God is still our forgiving Heavenly Father. We remember His faithfulness to us, His sovereignty over us, and providence for us. We can always remember “ALL THINGS, even those ‘poco loco’ things, He will turn out for good to those who love Him.” (Romans 8:28) AND, God keeps His promises.
