Leap Over that Wall

Leap Over that Wall

One of my first driving experiences was in a Chevy Impala! The driving part wasn’t the issue – it was the stick shift that I had to deal with. It was a leap of faith to maneuver it but before long – with a leap of faith – I became proficient driving that sweet ride!

Now, let’s talk about another leap of faith. Let’s talk about one of Adam’s wild kingdom animals — the African antelope – the sleek, graceful, and born with bounce impala.

The impala’s most defining feature? Its leap. This little powerhouse can launch 10 feet into the air and clear up to 33 feet in a single bound!

That’s longer than a stretch limo and higher than most backyard fences. God designed them with that ability to outrun predators and fly through the African terrain with flair.

But here’s what’s wild — at the zoo, they’re often kept in an enclosure with a wall just 3 feet high. Why? Because if an impala can’t see where it’ll land, it won’t jump. Their God-given gift is sidelined by uncertainty.

Sound familiar?

We’re a lot like the impala. We can pray bold prayers and sing brave songs — “I will trust in You!” — but then stare at that little wall of uncertainty and freeze. “What if I fail? What if I fall flat? What if I can’t see what’s next?”

But what if… we leap anyway?

Faith doesn’t need full visibility. In fact, Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Sometimes, the breakthrough is just on the other side of the leap.

The truth is — every great testimony begins with a leap. A moment of courage, a holy nudge, a whisper from heaven that says, “Jump. I’ll catch you.” Taking leaps of faith might feel scary — but it’s in those airborne moments where we’re stretched, strengthened, and stunned by God’s goodness.

In Psalm 18:29, David said it best: “With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can LEAP OVER a WALL!”

So whatever wall you’re staring down today — a decision, a diagnosis, a dream that seems impossible — don’t let the unknown keep you from jumping.

Because, my dear friends, you were made to leap! Even when we can’t see the landing – our faith was built for this!
